This is NEIGHBORS cat.

Kitten is roughly 6 weeks old, was injured by dog 2 days ago.

Now holding up left back leg up and won't put weight or pressure on it.

Appetite is fine, drinking fine.

On being held it cries in pain. Neighbor suspects broken leg.

No money for vet.

Are there any suggestions for home care?

I have metacam and tramadol for pain- are any of these acceptable for kitten of that age? If so, reccomended doseage, please.

THANK YOU!!

Perhaps they can surrender the kitten to the vet for treatment and the vet can adopt it out once s/he's healed. To not treat a possibly broken leg is just cruel.

PLEASE figure out how to get him to the vet - the surrender is a very good possibility. Maybe one of the local shelters can help or give suggestions. The hip could be also be dislocated - the longer it's out, the more damage is being done every minute. He sounds like a strong baby. Even if the leg has to be removed, believe me - 'Tripod' gets around just fine!

I would contact the rescues in the area, they might take him and have his leg fixed. Also the local SPCA has a vet on contract and they might take him in through that vet and work out payments. But this isn't something you can just give pain meds. for ..... have her get on the phone and call the world, someone will help.

I agree with everyone. It's really important the kitty's leg be treated by a vet asap. It's gonna need it its entire life to survive (or with 3 legs) and timing is of the essence. And the poor little thing is in pain. Thank you for helping!

Have to agree, vet time. Part of the cost of pet ownership, unfortunately. Can the neighbors get the owner of the dogs to pick up the tab? Especially if the kitten was at home and dogs were running loose.

needs treated melissa. otherwise could get infected, could lose leg or be in pain for a long time. really, really needs to see vet

thank you everyone for your replies.

I agree and have talked to the gal since reading your replies to her. I actually posted earlier, but it seems to have disapeared?

She was saying that it the kitten is now coming out of its crate willingly and not crying. She has called her vet again and they asked $30 for visit...she said she may take the kitten in, but does not have funds for xray.

I suggested she take it to vet for looking at anyway, and maybe the vet can rx some pain meds or advise further based on actually seeing the kitten.

I understand her plight as I cannot afford vet care most of the time for my own, let alone the strays that wander by. The kitten was born to a stray that was unfortunatley killed by the same dog that attacked it.

This neighbor is very caring and does want to help. She does not want to have kitten in pain.

I gave her the options and forwarded all your responses in email to her as well as reading them. Until she decides what to do, I also offered pain meds form here but told her she must have vet tell her the proper dose first.

Thank you again- please send positive vibes and prayers if you can spare them for the little kitty...and for the nighbor dog who apparently has very bad humans.

Thank you
