Ace, the new kitten I adopted last week from a local cat hospital, has a sensitive stomach (they said). He has had a problem with diarrea. They told me his stool has been checked. He has been here since 9/9 and I have had a couple of days of firmer stool, mostly its a soft puddle. The cat hospital told me they had been feeding him pro plan kitten canned and dry. I have tried forti flora, but he doesn't seem to care for that.

Maybe a limited ingredent food? He seemed interested in this, when Dallas was eating this yesterday:

Or maybe this? Dallas has had the duck variety:

Vet felt the applaws was a bit high in protein, but said I could give it. I just might want to give the kitten a little bit more time to settle in. He is sitting here with me, btw, very interested in the cursor on the screen, hence the typos...he and Dallas are getting there.

What are your thoughts or advice? Here is what he is currently eating:

You might add just a pinch of plain psyllium to soak up some of the excess moisture and help provide a bit of bulk.

And something to soak the excess craziness? He apparently just learned how to climb the screen door! cat(2)_steam

Yeah, they do that when they're kittens

Play with him more to tire him out ... if he can be tired out!

Just a thought - we adopted two cats from the Humane Society last year, and one of them had diarrhea. It was so bad that it would literally leak out when you picked her up. It was extremely foul-smelling, too. They did fecal testing, which came back negative for giardia (which is supposedly very common in cat shelters). My vet told me that the test isn't always accurate, though, since the cysts may not always be shed into the fecal matter. Repeated testing might be needed to catch it. Anyway....our vet went ahead and treated for it under the assumption that our cat did have giardia. We put her on a round of Flagyl, which cleared the issue up. It's just something to keep in mind if the food change doesn't clear up the issue.

An alternative to FortiFlora might be Intelliflora. I've used it in the past and the cats have liked it.

And if you find out a trick with the screen door, please let me know. Our kitties think it's better than climbing trees! ohmygod_smile
