Kit Kat for the last 2 or 3 days has been spitting up clear liquid, he did tonight just after getting his meds. He was taking cisapride & lactulose, before he had loose stool. I stopped both of them, but when I noticed his stool was starting to firm up, I started giving him the lactulose. I waited till several days ago and started giving him the cisapride. I noticed about 3 days ago a streak on the kitchen floor, yesterday he spit up clear liquid and tonight about about 20 minutes after taking his meds. My problem is he will not eat and I do not know what to do about his insulin.

He’s refusing his low carb food, do you think he’d eat some of his old favorite food or some medium carb food?
Is he drinking Ok?

Has KitKat been using the litter box? With the history of a blockage that can be a concern.

I get concerned if a cat is vomiting repeatedly and it's not an issue of hairballs.

Teresa - I'm not entirely comfortable with your giving meds given that your cat has been taking cisapride. I haven't a clue what the interaction could be between the medications. This may be a trip to the emergency vet.

He has been using the litter box and the meds he is taking are apoquel,
I found 2 Cerenia 24 mg Exp date 7/12/2021. Do you think they would be any good.
Kit Kat has been using the litter box, he spit up clear liquid after i gave him his meds, that is the only time today and the same thing yesterday once.

Kit Kat is taking apoquel, lactulose and I just started giving him cisapride a few days ago. I think the cisapride is what is bothering him.

Do you have any blank capsules? It may be that the meds are bitter. Cats may drool or spit liquid if the pill is distasteful. I keep a stock of blank capsules around and will stuff a pill in them to prevent the drooling, etc. I have no experience with either apoquel or cisapride. I would think the cicspride would be out of your cat's system if it's been a few days. Has KitKat had this kind of response to the meds in the past?

I'd be reticent to suggest using a medication that's almost 3.5 years past its "use by" date.

I gave him some friskies that he liked and so far he has ate 1/2 of a can. If he does not eat any more I will give a smaller dose of insulin, which I am not for sure about what dose. He just came in and used the litter box and I put a Ketone Test strip in the urine and it was negative.

He had not been taking the cisapride because he had loose stools after I changed his food.Cisapride & Lactulose are both for constipation, I had already started giving him the lactulose and a few days ago I started giving him the cisapride. Whenever I gave him the cisapride he would almost gag, so i am not going to give h
By any chance do you have a blood glucose test from before you gave KitKat any food? How much does he usually eat around shot time?
Yes, but that was 2.5 hours ago.It was 265. Also, he did eat some Friskies. I put the friskies in front of him and he is looking at it.

His normal dose is 1.25.

Cisapride is a liquid, I have blank capsules for pills. However, they do not do well with liquids. He just started taking the cisapride again a few days ago.

Generally, if a shot is more than 2 hours past your usual time, it's going to be a headache for you to get back on schedule tomorrow. Remember, your AM shot will be due in 12 hours from whenever you shoot tonight. If you skip tonight, you can give your cat his shot at the usual time tomorrow. If you shoot late, you can move the time back in 15 min increments at each shot time or by 30 min once a day.

I'm assuming that there's no history of ketones. Ketones would be the only reason to avoid skipping a shot.

Have you tried Miralax?

No, The lactulose can be used by it's self, I have taken the Miralax myself. Miralax needs lots of water. KitKat uses the cisapride because he had to have several enemas. If I gave him something like .50 or .25 would he still need to wait 2.75 hrs in the morning.

Theoretically, yes -- you would need to wait. Realistically, if you're giving a token dose, I can't predict what would happen in the AM. If KitKat's numbers are low, you might want to skip in the AM. It would also depend on whether you're going to be home tomorrow to monitor. There's some overlap between doses with Prozinc. Given the late shot, there's always the chance that numbers will drop due to the PM dose overlapping with the AM dose. It can also have an effect on the nadir.

I don't know if @Suzanne & Darcy is around. She's had more experience with Prozinc than I have.

I Think I am going to take your advice and skip tonight. Thank you, for all your help.

I use Miralax, for Corky and Coco, is milder than the Lactulose which I use as well if too constipated, but with The Miralax, the 1/4 tsp I give them I do not use water I just put in their food, it mixes well in the food

I have had different people ask me if I has tried Miralax. I have used it myself, but never for the cat. When I used it for myself I would put the miralax in a glass of water. KitKat also uses cisparide, he has had a lot of problems with constipation.
