Y'all may remember (or have seen my post in HEALTH) about Oreo periodically making a noise somewhere between a wheeze and trying to bring up a hairball. Jessica said she thought it was reflux and happened in relation to when he ate, but I couldn't actually make any connections to anything. I would think about taking him in because I'd feel so helpless during his 'episodes' and didn't want him to be suffering with some kind of respiratory something that I didn't bother to treat, but then he'd go days and days and not have one so I'd think it was a passing thing. I would've said it was construction dust, but it started before the DIY...Posted on HEALTH and everyone advised to take him in.

Called and got an appt for this morning. Was told we'd see a different vet since ours wasn't working today. We were okay with that since we hadn't seen ours since Nov, 2011 diagnosis and didn't want to possibly have another confrontation on our differing views about most everything it seems like. So - off Doug and Oreo went.

Doug liked her and said Oreo didn't hiss or pitch any type of fit, but didn't like it when she tried to listen to his chest, she had to hold him for that. Anyhoo - she said all sounded good respiratory-wise. She said she thinks it is hairball related, something to do with the mild winter and length of time to shed his coat. Apparently, the hairball gets too far to bring up and he can't pass it. Said she had seen other patients present with the same symptoms. She gave us tuna flavored Laxatone (with he HATES!) to use three times a week. She said Hershey could use it, too, until Doug read the ingredients (GO, DOUG!) and reminded her that Hershey is diabetic.

I was a little perturbed at first that Doug had shared so much of Hershey's diabetic business with this new vet. But, he said she was all for home-testing, treating, all wet food, everything he mentioned. :o So, we might be seeing her again... She also said Oreo looks "perfect!" :-D Our vet wanted him to lose 3-lb of his 15 he weighed in at in Nov. Today, he weighed 11.5-lb!

So relieved that it's not respiratory! And, Doug was quite optimistic at how well she received what he was sharing about Hershey...we'll see...

Hope y'all are having a GREAT day!

Libby - Hershey, and Oreo, too!!

Thanks, you saved me a vet visit. My civie Samantha did that just this morning for the second time in a few days.

You can post on Health asking about the diabetic friendly hairball stuff. I can't remember the name of it and have passed along most of my diabetic supplies.

Sounds like a good visit... and weren't you the one that had the vet turmoil back in the early days of FD? Wow - isn't it amazing when a vet actually supports the things we do? Good for all of you!!!

Yes, ma'am - much less than pleasant conversation. I kind of wish I had gone today so I could've met this vet. Oh - and Doug said one of the ladies working stopped him and said she had worked there off and on for ~15 yrs and while she knew it had been a while, wanted to offer her condolences on the loss of Smokey. He died in 2000, but I told Doug I still thought it was a nice gesture...I still miss him...nice to know others remember him, too.

I was so excited that she actually offered to research a hairball something that Hershey could have! :-D I'm hoping that means our regular vet has been doing some reading, too...maybe?? *wish*
