Hi All
I have been on this Board with Purrcee and Muffin but it has been some time ago. Now with Edward. Recently diagnosed on 9/3/20 and not doing well. Edward is a sanctuary cat so testing more than once a day is not possible. Since his diagnosis we have tried a low carb diet to see how low we can get his glucose. The challenge there is he is not a wet food kitty and prefers dry food so we are trying many foods. I will give him on more day then probably have to go to blind shooting which I know is not what this forum is about. I want to start at the lowest dose possible and only shoot once a day. He runs in the 300s. I do have some questions if anyone is willing to work with me on this method. Thanks.

@Wendy&Neko has had experience with shelter cats. Maybe she knows something about sanctuary cats.
Any chance of trapping and setting him up in a feral rescue shelter?
Dr Elsey's Clean Protein and Young Again are low carb dry foods.

Hello again Julie. Thank you for helping Edward.

I never had to deal with kitties other than in a shelter, where it was pretty easy to medicate/feed more than once per day. Are you giving insulin twice a day? Any chance you think you could get a Freestyle Libre monitor put on him and that it would stay? They only last a couple weeks, but you can scan it anytime for a history of readings.

Other food options are freeze dried raw or air dried (Ziwipeak). The Ziwipeak and some of the freeze dried have some crunch and are lower carb too.

There are a few dry foods that are low carb. Dr Elseys Clean Protein, Young Again and Epigen 90. Of course if you can get him on wet food that would be best. You can try adding a little Fortiflora on top. That gets even my most finicky cat to eat the wet.

Sorry I did not mean to imply Edward was feral. We actually are the ones in our area that has the feral cat habitat. He is not (used to be though We are feeding Young Again dry and many different kinds of wet but he also has mild pancreatitis so he is on Cerenia, Mirtazipine, and bup for pain for now. I will check out Dr. Elseys Clean Protein for sure. Thanks.
