Hi all...does anyone know how long it takes for geriatric kitties with stage 2 kidney disease to recover? My kitty Mor Mor had an ultrasound done yesterday and vet suspects kidney infection from looking at an ultrasound ??? The culture is coming back in a few days but I am wondering why he hasnt shown signs of feeling better (still diminished appetite and nauseated ) when he has been on Clavamox for 4-5 days?

This is where I went when everyone was wrong about our dog having cancer. Since then the sight has gotten slower and has more ads.
You'll have to really dig deep, keep a notebook handy.

And this is what I got when I entered "stage 2 kidney disease cats" into the search engine.

You won't get just one answer, the sight contains links to articles, papers and patient studies but it is thorough.
I've never seen a cat nauseated by Clavamox. Did they say (on Monday) to continue the BUPE? It can't do any harm to ask about the transdermal I use on Noah.

Kidney disease and kidney infection are completely different. Cats with kidney disease don't recover with use of antibiotics. Where does the diagnosis of stage 2 kidney disease come from? Blood tests?

hi christie ...stage 2 diagnosis comes from bloodwork. .I have to say bye to Mor Mor...he has nothing treatable...and he is very weak and vet called tonight saying euthanasia. ..

its ok...he has had a great life....but he has gone quickly downhill in two days...the internist looked at his ultrasound...he said his kidney is extended...pyonephritus....?....

all i know is he is weak and sufferring....i am not a vet...I am just looking at how he feels...not the numbers...what an awful night and an awful disappointment....but we have to be strong for the kitties we love...and is it ever hard...I will be up all night with Mor....

Stage 2 kidney disease is quite treatable....we have quite a few cats here with stage 2 or higher.

Fluids and the right medications can make a world of difference in how they feel. A low phosphorus diet is a key too.

If he's still been taking the Clavamox, I think it's worth discontinuing it and seeing if he perks up. There are also good medications to help with nausea like Cerenia and Ondansetron.

Everything you could need to know is on Tanya's Comprehensive Guide to CKD

In the end, it's a decision you have to make for Mor Mor though. If he's suffering and you feel keeping him alive will just continue his suffering, it's always better to let them go.
