Ketones in blood - How freaked out should I be?

I tried to get Bernie into a clinical trial on Tuesday. They received the blood work back today and said that he had very high Ketones in his blood. We are waiting at the Emergency Vet to be seen. How freaked out should I be about this?

Trying to stay calm and failing at this point.

How is Bernie acting and eating?
