Ketones Blood Strips Which brand ?

With Fritz's #'s being so high most of the time, I think I want to use the ketone blood strips. Do I need to buy a separate meter or can I use my Alphatrak2? What strips do you recommend?
I test frequently with the urine ketone strips but Iv'e read the blood detects it earlier.
 
Hi Deb,

You cannot get strips to read ketones for your AT2 meter. I have only been able to find two meters that measure ketones. There may be other options in the US. The options I am aware of are:

Nova Max- don't think the strips (glucose or ketone) are readily available for this meter in local retailers. I read that this meter was not always providing an accurate reading for BG or ketones at low ranges and often required a repeat test due to flimsy test strips being hard to insert into the meter. That said what I read was on the internet and could be ancient info and no longer applicable as meters do change.

Precision Xtra - strips should be readily available locally but are more expensive.

In Canada, the Precision Neo measures ketones as well as BG but it appears this meter in the US, only measure BG??! Strange but then we don't seem to be able to get the Precision Xtra here! :confused:
 
Hey Deb, I use the Precision Xtra Ketone Meter. I got it online for about 30 bucks. The strips are expensive and the cheapest place found the strips were at Universal Drugstore from Canada. I got 40 strips for $90 plus $7 for S/H 1866-456-2456 The meter is really easy to use. Cat ketones do not show up on a human meter until 2.4 on the meter.
 
The Precision Xtra is a blood glucose and ketone meter but, I only use it for ketones because the Relion Prime meter strips are so cheap.
 
Thanks I 'll get it ordered today. Another question I have been online for the last hour looking at syringes. The vet sent me home with U-40 1/2cc 29 GX1/2 should I continue to use these or is there a better one? I think I should also have some U100 on hand for smaller unit dosing. Can you suggest which ones work best on kitty's?

I use the Relion U100 3/10 ml 30 gauge length 8mm. They are about $13 a box of 100. Someone else might have a different brand to recommend. If you are going to use the U100 you need to use the conversion chart since ProZinc is a U40 Prozinc. Do you have the chart? If not let us know.
 
Yes I printed the chart out but at this time not planning on using the U100 I just want to have on hand incase I need them. I want to have as much on hand and nit have to run after it if the time comes.:joyful:
