Hi,

My name is Ann and my cat was recently diagnosed with diabetes. After wasting time with Novalin for about a month I am hopefully picking up Lantus today.

Anyway, the vet advised me to get Ketostix to check for Ketones. I am wondering what the best way to collect her urine is, as it is going to be tough getting a cup under her in the litterbox .

Thanks!

There is a blood meter called the novamax plus that was recommended to me here. post in the feline health and welcome board so more people can see this and advise you.

I have this Nova Max Blood Ketone Reader.

It uses these strips:

I have been using it for 4 years on my two diabetics. The strips are pricey so I test about once a week. You need a big blood droplet (about 2x what you need to test glucose).

I forget the exact reference range for cats but under 1.0 is ideal. If you get over 1.5 or close to 2.0 I believe that is when you need to worry about ketones.
