Hi!
I am wondering - after reading about tests for ketones - if I should do that as well. I think the urine testing is impossible for me, due to two kitties using the litter box. I read that blood tests are more accurate, right? Which meter would you recommend? How often do you test?

I found this one online, would this be any good? Does anybody have experience with this?

Yes, a ketone test is very helpful. And necessary if he ever goes off his food and acts lethargic. The glucose meter does work, especially helpful with a ketone prone kitty. But be aware the strips are very expensive.

Our Oliver wouldn't pee if we were in the room. So we put aquarium gravel in a clean box and left him alone with it in a box for a few minutes. He would have to "christen" the clean box. Then we'd swoop in and get our sample as the gravel wouldn't absorb it.

I have to stalk Squallie all around the house to get a urine test, he is very private in his litter box habits. Fortunately he likes being with me, and tends to be a little lazy, so when he gets up and walks away with purpose in his step, it's a good bet he's headed toward the box! I have to act very nonchalant if he sees me before he climbs in the box, or he'll stop and we have to start the whole silly process over again at a later time, lol.

Another blood ketone meter is the Precision XTra. Compare the test strip costs, because they are both pricey and frequent testing adds up.
Also see my signature link Secondary Monitoring Tools for some additional assessments you can make to evaluate how you cat is doing.
