Hi!

I thought I should start a new topic about this. (I feel like I'm hogging all the bandwidth for these boards). We are going to be testing Dude for ketones as soon as we get him home and I am trying to find the best way to do that. We have 3 other cats (though only 2 of them use the same litter as Dude, its complicated :P) so I'm not sure how we're going to get a urine sample from just him other than trying to catch it with something which we totally can do if we have to... but I found this meter online and wondered if it would work:

Abbott Precision Xtra meter

Any ideas?

The Precision ketone meter is a good meter but the strips are very expensive!! I use it when I catch any ketones in the urine. I also have other kitties and it can be difficult to get Payne but we have found if we watch her after she eats (we add a lot of water) she wanders over and we can catch it. BUT she needs to be in the box or else if we come over .... she won't go!

Also, they sell the strips on eBay and they are much cheaper. I hope Dude is doing better today.

I like the Precision Xtra meter. The testing strips are more expensive but personally I think it's worth it. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe keytone shows up in bloodstream before it does in urine. The meter catches presence of keytone in bloodstream hence gives you an advance warning (so to speak).

My boy had keytone the very first time I used the Precision meter. He ended up in the hospital. We were lucky because I was able to catch the prescence of keytone early using the meter.
