ketone dipstrip question

Hi all,

I noticed the color on a new strip (kinda peachy) before dipping matches the "trace" color chart. After I dip the strip, this color stays the same and I have been assuming this would be "trace". Maybe this means no ketones present? But the chart shows no ketones as a more mustard color, but why wouldn't a new strip before dipping not be mustard? Thanks!

The colour difference between negative and trace can be hard to distinguish. Are there instructions for how long to wait after dipping to judge? I find viewing under a bright light is helpful.

15 seconds, color seems to be exactly as it was before dipping, but it definitely matches "trace" on the color chart.

Test yourself. Look at the results in the same light.
It might give you a clue as to whether the result is negative or trace (assuming you're not throwing ketones yourself).
