A few quick questions.....

Has anyone heard of the "catnip" newsletter? Its put out by Tufts University: Cummings school of veterinary medicine. I received a packet in the mail yesterday to subscribe to their newsletter, and it had some info in the packet. If anyone is famaliar with them I'd like to hear your input.

In the packet it mentioned giving your cat kelp powder? It claimed to sprinkle a teaspoon of it on your cats food (or lecithin). It states that both help speed your cats metabolism and break down fats. Has anyone heard of this? If so can spirulina be used as well?

I also noticed few use coconut oil on here. What are the benefits? Does it effect BG? Will a small amount cause weight gain? I'm not looking for my cats to gain weight but I have seen it helps with fur balls and shiny coats.

Can't help you with the kelp oil as I've never heard of that before.

Coconut oil shouldn't raise BGs (no sugar or carbs). It's great for "greasing" up the digestive system for hairballs, mild constipation, that sort of thing, and also helps with their coat. It's just oil and you give a teeny bit, so I doubt it'd help any weight loss/gain. As to the claim of it helping lower BGs, I've never seen or heard of it personally, but that's not to say it doesn't work for some cats.

Thank you, I was doing some searching on here about coconut oil and I seen it raised a few bgs? Could be a coincidence but I thin I'll research a little more before I try. Im really curious about the kelp powder though.
