We recently increased to 5.5 - the last time he was at 5.5 his glucose went lower than usual and I was uncertain as to what dose to give so I did nothing. I'm anticipating that when it's time for his next dose, he will be lower than the usual 200 or 300 or 400. Can someone please give me advice on what dose to give him?? Thanks!

I would stick with 5.5 units for now. You need to hold the dose at least 6 cycles to build the depot and see what the dose is capable of, unless he earns a reduction of course. If you are following SLGS, you would hold the dose a week.

Any chance of getting some spot check tests at night before bed? Many kitties go lower at night, and it's those lows that tell us how to change the dose.

We usually head for bed a little after the evening dose. But can check a couple of hours later and, if need be, after that. When he was at 79, should I have given him 5.5?

Somewhere on this site (and I can't find it now, but I copied and pasted into a Word doc) I found a question regarding pre-shot glucose level being way below the "usual" value. It said that if glucose is below 150, don't give insulin. Good idea or bad idea?

From your speadsheet and the fact you are feeding dry food, I presume you are following Start Low Go Slow method for dosing. SLGS says not to dose if below 90, and I wouldn't dose lower than you are used to if you cannot monitor. SLGS also has a bit about not dosing below 150, but that is for people who are new. Over time, and as you gather experience and data, you can lower that no shot number from 150 down to 90.

At 79 I probably was right not to give him 5.5, but I shouldn't have lowered the dose for the next shot I'm thinking. When his glucose gets low, I am fearful of doing the wrong thing.
