Had a problem with Kaz tonight just wanted to keep you informed in case the issue continues to get worse.

Kaz ate his morning breakfast normally and his first meal. Then he did not eat again till dinner and I did not force him. At dinner I tried to get him to eat he sniffed it ate small amount and threw up immediately. I waited about 5 minutes while sitting with him and he seemed fine so I tried him again. Again he ate small amount and threw it up. This happened three times on the third occasion I now saw that he still wanted to throw up but there was nothing there. I then suddenly had a really bad feeling that something was obstructing his gullet and that was what the issue was. I get him to eat a fourth time and then waited. This time as soon as he started to throw up I grabbed him and made him stand versus crouch and hit his underside with a bit of force while at the same time doing a somewhat similar motion on his back.
I did see a treat that he gets after blood tests come up un chewed.

I then waited another 15 minutes and gave him another large teaspoon of food (not healthiest) which I knew he would eat. He has eaten about half of it and is now lying on the floor next to me. He has not yet thrown it up but he does not really want anything.

I'll wait another half hour and try again.

Did not feel comfortable giving him insulin as he is not eating properly and I don't know how long this will last.

His Ketones are fine and I tested his BG again I am sure it will sky rocket by morning but this is the safest thing to do right now.

I'm contemplating giving him some appetite gel to make him hungry???

Aww poor Kaz...Hopefully that was why he wasn't eating & was puking because he had a treat stuck. Your very smart to think that & do what you did for your baby. His #s look good & he was so close to another reduction the other night. Your doing a great job Claire. Hopefully one of the members you tagged has some insight on what is going on with Kaz & he will continue to eat & keep it down.

Do you have any ondansetron or cerenia? I would give that first before trying an appetite stimulant.
I think you could safely give him 1 unit even if he hasn’t eaten. FD Cats that are being fasted for anaesthetic are given a half dose of insulin. You would need to monitor.

He should have had hi insulin two hours ago? I can give him a quarter unit now if that's ok.
I did give him half a tablet of Cerenia when he threw up the second time I'm just not sure if he threw this up on the third or fourth time and did not want to give him more as dose says half tablet.
I did give him a small amount of appetite stimulant more because he's a DKA cat and I was worried about him not eating.
He has now eaten a healthy amount and is fast asleep on the bed. It was the treat stuck in his throat that caused this I'm sure of it but at the time I did not know this.

Bron if you want me to give him a quarter dose now I will but I just need you to confirm this as it is 2 hours later on.

Sorry I am late getting back to you. It’s now almost 3 hours after the dose was due so I think I would leave it now. And give the next dose when due…if you want to change the dosing schedule to an earlier time, now is to your chance.
It’s great you are aware he needs to eat well and get another ketone test in sometime if you can.
I’m glad he is eating better.

I definitely can't move his time any earlier as I would not be able to make it with my work schedule. In fact I have to move it later come next month when I leave as the women the cats will be staying with wants to do 7.30am and 7.30pm.
His BG is now high but hopefully he will come down in the morning.

I'd also give some thought to the treats you're using. I've never had a treat get stuck in a cat's throat. I would guess they would be coughing to get it up sooner rather than later. Can you break the treats up into smaller pieces?

They have both been on these treats for years without incident not sure what happened as I know Kaz has swallowed them many times before without issue. Very bazar and think it's a one off.
Plus they both love these treats if they hear the bottle or even see it they chase after me. They are no bigger than other cat treats that are not as good for them and Kaz has lots treats a day now so I try to minimize the unhealthy food.

they also get

however these I do now have to break up for them as they find them harder to chew and it because some of the chicken bits are really hard. If had chocked on this it would be understandable.
I will watch and obviously do what's best for my cats which is what I always do anyway.
