Right after she flicked blood all over me. (occassionally I hit the vein. Big blood drop. She finds it annoying so she flicks her ear. Awesomesauce)

Good thing cats and humans don't share many diseases.

FYI folks - those caps over the needles aren't worth a DAMN. I was putting the cap on to drop the syringe in my "sharps" container (poweraide bottle. . ). The needle had bent, about 30 degrees. I put the cap on and the dang needle went right through it and into my finger.
Silly me, I figured the cap would bend it back straight.

all this goes to say. . . the caps aren't worth a damn. Don't let it happen to you!

I washed it really good and I may do a little peroxiding. Jeez.

Don't you love when cats do that? You look like you are scene from CSI afterwards. It is amazing how much one little drop can spread.

After stabbing myself a couple times, I bought a needle clipper from my pharmacy. You can use it to clip off the needle before recapping it. It will then store the needle within the clipper. Once it is full, you throw it away and get another one.

Our area does not require a sharps container and we can throw them in the trash. I would put my used syringes in a coffee can. But since this would eventually end up in a landfill, I started removing the needles from the syringes before disposing of them.

Glad to hear it's not just me that does that! LOL Then I have to hide the needle from the other cats that gather because I give treats while Heff gets his shot. Bessie thinks its fun to steel the syringe. SIGH. Life with a 2 1/2 year old cat is like life with a toddler.

Ack, thanks for the warning. I also assumed for whatever reason that those caps were made of super indestructible material. Please let us know if you start craving tuna or obsessively licking yourself.

I had a blood-spatter situation last week on only my 3rd day as a cat-stabber. Being new to the whole thing, my stomach was still adjusting to all of the blood and needles, etc, and it was all I could do to keep my breakfast where it belonged.

I love reading all these responses!

Thanks for the tip about the needle clipper! I had heard of them but didn't realize they held the needles. I may have to get one!

We have all had this happen.

I always used the needle clipper, then threw the syringe away in the trash. But if you don't and use a sharps container, I think you don't need to recap. In fact, I think used needles shouldn't be capped so there is no confusion between used and new needles. Also so you don't stab yourself :-D .

PS: I have white kitchen cabinets, and the ear flick sending drops of blood everywhere made it look like a crime scene!
