Hey, all!

So, I just started home testing Frito's blood glucose. I tested about 20 minutes before feeding/injecting (1u @ 8pm), and got 386. I decided to do another test an hour at 9pm, and received 440. I kind of panicked, hoping I did something wrong, and received 388 the second time.

First question:
Which number should I record on the SS? I went with the second.

Second:
Should I just wait it out? Meaning, is it possible, since it has only been an hour after, that the number will still drop? Or is there something I should do?

I plan on doing a curve tomorrow, since I have the day off and I'll be home. I test every 2 hour, correct?

I feel like I've forgotten all my research that I've done on this forum since I first got his dx.

Thanks,
Katie & Frito

You can record both in the same cell if you wish. An hour after shooting, the numbers may go up due to food spikes, plus the longer acting insulins may not start showing effect until +2 hours post shot.

Wait it out and be patient.

A curve is serial glucose tests from pre-shot to pre-shot, every 2 hours. A mini-curm is every 3 hours.

Could you add the insulin to your signature, please? It'll help us in giving feedback.

Ok, I was kind of thinking along those lines. Just new panic.
And thanks for the clarification on the curve. That's what I'll be doing tomorrow.
As far as recording both numbers, just enter as 440/388?

No need to panic - the numbers are fairly high, but better too high than too low. Now you're home testing you'll be able to start adjusting his dose to bring the numbers better under control. The first hour after he eats, and possibly another hour or so after that his numbers will be affected by the food.

The 386 and 440 are effectively the same number once you take the +/-20% meter variance into account.

A curve is every 2 hours from one pre shot to the next.

And congrats on your first successful tests!! :D

Thanks!

Oh! How soon before dosing should I preshoot? Should I try another test tonight, or just leave it to my curve tomorrow?

Take a look at my signature links Glucometer Notes and Secondary Monitoring Tools. You may find them helpful references.

Usually we test, feed and shoot in that order, one immediately after the other. A before bed test is always a good idea so you can see roughly where he's likely to be overnight. :)
