I'm new here and didn't see anything in my search to answer this. Our male cat, about 10-11 years old, overweight and lazy, recenly became more active, lost lots of weight, to an uncomfortable level, to the point that we had him tested, and it came back positive for Diabetes. He's still super affectionate, and has a strong appetite, so we are early on in the diabetes process.
Problem is, we are heading out of the country in a week, and will be gone for two weeks, so do I start the insulin right away, and then take a two week break, or do I just start it when I get back in town? asking someone else to run glucose tests and do injections while we are gone doesn't seem reasonable, so I'm stuck with that question. Start now, and take a break, or just start when we get back?

Thanks,
-J

I think this is kind of a personal decision, if it were me I would like to give him his treatment as soon as possible since the longer his diabetes stays untreated the more possibilities he has to have some more complications maybe you can find someone that will be willing to test and shoot him for the time you are going to be away

Thanks Veronica, I may be able to get my daughter to assist while we are out, it's just a tall order to ask of someone watering and feeding a cat while I'm out. hopefully she'll be up for it, we'll see. I hate to wait on the insulin if I don't have to.
