Hi,
My wonderful cat Marty was just diagnosed with diabetes. I am still in shock because he seemed so healthy. I just gave him his first insulin shot and cried the whole time. Marty doesn't deserve this...no cat does. I am going to do everything I can to keep my beloved boy healthy and happy. I welcome all feedback.

So sorry for the diagnosis. Shots get easier. Cats with diabetes can live long healthy lives.

We've all been where you are now....shocked, worried, overwhelmed and sad. Believe me, this will all change in a relatively short time as you learn more about your precious Marty's diabetes and how to best keep him healthy and happy. What seems to be overwhelming now will soon be a few routine moments of your day and the bond between you and Marty will only get stronger. Hi Marty's Mom and Marty. Take a deep breath and know that you are in the right place to learn how to care for Marty and relieve that feeling of shock and sadness. Linda (MrWorfmen'sMom) told you the truth, it does become just part of your life and Marty can look forward to many happy years going forward. Imagine if you or a loved one had been diagnosed with diabetes, you would find out everything you could do to ensure safety and well being. Feline diabetes is very treatable, and it's time to start learning what you can do. Take a look at the FAQs forum HERE and begin reading. Knowledge dispels fear, and you have a whole community to rely on as you start this new journey.
There are three basic things for you to learn about as you begin, just like human diabetics:
Diet
Insulin therapy
Home testing
We will help you find a suitable low carb diet for Marty, we will help you learn about the insulin you are using, and we will help you learn to home test to help keep Marty safe and see how the diet and insulin are affecting his blood sugar.

Hi Marty's Mom, don't worry you're not alone; you are a wonderful mom to Marty, taking care of him. Everybody here will help you! I was exactly where you are last December, but with all the good advices and constant and wonderful support I got from this Forum, I am now a lot more in control. I was like you, shaking and crying when first shooting and taking BG. Now I'm OK, I have to do it for my little guy to get better! There are things that have to be done to help all members to give you a hand: read the Stickies, what insulin are you giving; what kind of food; there is a spreadsheet to complete when testing; the more info we have, the easier it is for experienced members to help!
From now on, you should post on the Main Health Forum to have more visibility. Ask as many many questions as needed, don't be afraid ! Marty is proud of you and feels secure now !

I'm in the same position just gave my first insulin shot Friday, I feel your worry! Crying a lot!
