Good Morning,

I'm not sure who started this forum but the advice received by just reading all the information has been a Godsend for me and my Boo Boo. I never posted much but want to thank everyone personally. Boos BG readings were continually in the 600 and 700 hundreds. It took me months to switch him to a totally canned diet of FF classics and Friskees. He hated it. I had a bag of MD hard food and also had bought the Young Again hard food. I would give him 5 pieces of the MD or the Young Again with his canned food. He would stare at me like "your kidding right!" and I often went to bed and cried. I knew it was going to be the only way to keep him with me. I also had to switch vets and find someone who would take me seriously. If anyone is in the St. Louis area I found a wonderful vet and would be happy to give you their information. Boo started out on Lantus with really no success and was switched to ProZinc. The ProZinc actually worked better on him than the Lantus which was odd. It still did not get him to where we needed to be. BG still shot up to over 500 when I did the PMPS reading. We then switched to Levemir and after 1 month I woke up to his BG being one the 40s.... A bit low. Working with my vet we continually adjusted his insulin based on his daily BG readings until he was in the mid 80s everyday. He's been OTJ since November and every day is a gift. I still test everyday to make sure his numbers are ok. I know that things can change quickly but am so grateful for all the information on this forum. I can't stress enough that you have to get them off of the hard food. It was such a painful process but so worth it. Again, thank you for such a wonderful place and I can never thank you enough for giving me my BooBoo back.

With much Gratitude from me and my Boo,
Nadine

Nadine , you warmed my heart this morning with Boo story. I'm so happy he's doing well and I hope your story gives hope to many who are having a hard time fighting this fight.
Thank you!

Congrats to you and Boo for listening and learning and transitioning off the dry and being one of many success stories this board has to offer.

Headbutts to you!!!

Nadine and extra sweet kitty Boo Boo, thanks for sharing your success story.

Yes, transitioning a dry food addict to wet food is quite challenging. Boo Boo should join Wink in the DFAA (Dry Food Addicts Anonymous) meetings. He still talks about how much he misses his dry food and wishes he could eat it again all day, every day. But, he is resigned to only get some freeze dried treats as a poor substitute to his one true love, any sort of dry food.

It sure can make a major difference in the BG readings when you get your cat eating a lower carb food.

Congratulations on being OTJ!

I love reading these success stories. I agree, this forum is truly amazing. I know my mind has been eased several times because of things I have read here.
