Junior's vet called, not impressed

Hi All,

The doc called back a few minutes ago, hadn't looked at what I sent her, just told me he has a UTI and needs the Amocicillin, maybe try the fruity one....and if that doesn't work, try the Clindamycin....she doesn't sound like she knows what I should do...

I think I am on the lookout for a new vet, hard to find in the mountains...
 
So here's the scoop. What's the diagnosis of the UTI based on? Did the vet draw a sterile urine sample with a needle (a cystocentesis) and then do a culture and sensitivity (C & S) to know what the bacteria are and therefore choose the right antibiotic? Throwing the wrong antibiotic at an infection isn't helpful. These are antibiotics from 2 different classes and used to treat different bacteria.

I don't get it, try this, or try that, like you said she is basing it on urine testing I did at home, not in a sterile office.
Then she told me to take the wrong mixed med back to the drug store and tell them it was a mistake, and if they won't then try the Clindamycin...makes no snese to me, or to you, correct?

right now, I don't know what to give him.

suggestions?
 
I'm not impressed with your vet either. ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile You may want to post on health - maybe someone has a good vet they can refer you to.
 
Thank you both, I do believe Junior needs and deserves another vet!

Very high PMPS last night due to vicious thunderstorms, he hit a 396, highest I ever saw except when he was diagnosed.

at +4 he was down to 312...

still eating good, got some beef and liver for him, he likes it!

will post on Health for a vet.
