Junior's update on wet food and 1u Lantus

Morning,
He has been on all wet food for almost 3 days, I dropped him to 1u Lantus, and even without a BG, I did get urine testing done, I know it is not as accurate, but his levels are DROPPING!
My numbers are not the best, but it does show they are going down, tonite, I am testing his pad on his foot, still no success on the ear, either side, DH will help tonight, he will be home from work early to help me & junior.
I was excited and called my vet, I rec'd back an answer, saying dropping his insulin because of canned food doesn't make any sense to her, I explained about my help on this board, and I was sticking with what I was doing, and with the pad test tonite, I would have anumber, maybe only one, but you have to start somewhere. She was not very happy, thought I should still increase it til I get a BG reading.
I am keeping it my way , no increase.
She also told me that cats with Neuropathy rarely recover, I told her he was still getting his methyl B-12, and I thought it would work. she replied it can't hurt!

so, that is it for today.

a number tomorrow, full testing this weekend no matter what. wish us luck!

Good job on changing things for Junior. And very good job on sticking to your plan - you are already seeing improvements. I hope that your vet will see the wisdom of YOUR ways. With your plan in place and a little help testing, I'm sure that your testing will go well this weekend. Good luck.

Thanks, I hope I am doing as much right as possible for my little guy!
It has been frustrating with no BG, but we will work it out!

any other suggestions for testing on the pad?

This is great! :smile: Don't worry about your vet. Either she'll come around when she sees Junior's results or she won't, and that's really up to her. I've found the best vets are those that admit they can't possibly know everything, and are willing to learn when new information is presented to them. The worst vets are those that bully patients into taking a specific course of action, and refuse to relent even when information is presented to them that proves that course of action is wrong, either for financial reasons or stubbornness. You have the articles available that prove the correct dosing course, which you are taking and she is advising against. Now you just have to get the data that proves you took the best course of treatment. Wishing you lot's of luck and treats (for both Junior and his mom and dad) with the testing!
