So, two things came together yesterday: Jeddie's totally unchanging numbers and me getting too ill to even test and shoot him.
His numbers have tended to be in the mid to upper 200s with little variation, except an occasional low cycle and/or PS. These used to happen every 9 days or so. Sounds like rebound, right? So I tried reducing his dose from highs of .7u and, more recently to .2u from .5u. No change in his numbers. I held each dose for 5 days or longer.
I poured over his SS looking for clues. Everything told me I was giving too much insulin from those occasional lows to his immediate response to lev on his first shot. Maybe I started him back on insulin too soon? It seemed like no dose change made a difference so I was actually contemplating taking him off insulin entirely for 3 days and seeing what happened.
Be careful what you wish for.
So yesterday, with a fever of 102 and nausea, it was hard enough to even feed them and fall back into bed. I just could not test and shoot and wasn't sure I wouldn't screw it up anyway and be too out of it to notice or do anything about it. It was almost 36 hours between his last shot and this morning's and I expect 300s, so the 256 was a surprise. Exactly what he had on insulin. So I shot .5u and was even more surprised at the 156 I got tonight. I didn't think I had to spot check today, but I wish I had. I bet he was lower. So, I did the unthinkable and shot .1u tonight.
...to be continued.
(just tested a +4 and he was 97  )
