Jeddie seems stuck in mid 100s

Yesterday - 4 tests ranging from 133-177, this am 163 (Sunday).

He has been on .25u, per Monique's suggestion, for 6 full cycles, starting on 7th. I think he needs a tad more, but maybe not .5u. Maybe a "skinny" .5u., like .4u. I do think there are "shades of gray" between .25u and .5u. that do make a difference in response. It makes sense to me to think in terms of percentages of change, so .25u being 41% of .6u (his old dose), was probably too much of a drop.

He is acting a little better. Not sure if that is the absence of t-storms for the last 36 hrs, or steady BGs, lol! I do think he was on some sort of roller-coaster before.

I bought a 66 quart container to make into a litter box for him. I have to cut a doorway into it and get it set up this afternoon. Paws crossed that he "takes" to it.

Just FYI- I have all huge storage container for all the cats and have not cut any holes or doorways...they jump over the sides and back- no problems.

The one time I did cut holes, the standing pee-ers peed out the hole.

maybe yours are different.

Well, the law of averages would say that if the wall length is 80" and I cut a 6" wide window then there is 7.5% chance of a single cat peeing out the hole... I could try and figure the calculation using areas, like the entire area of wall vs. the area of the hole, but... you get the idea.

What actually is important is if you have a front-facing pee-er or a rear-facing pee-er. Jeddie does both although Beau faces in when peeing and out when pooping, which I think is funny. I could try it without a hole, but I am afraid of him climbing out, rather than jumping over the wall, and tipping the whole thing over. That could be a big mess too.

LOL! ...tipping! NOT something I would have thought of here where each litter box holds an average of 50 pounds of litter/poo/pee at any one time! LOL!

I put 2, 28 pound boxes of litter in each container and refill pretty regular so there is generally 40 pounds at least...my heaviest cat is 12 pounds (b/c I made him loose 3 lbs!) so considering jump/force ratio. tail length and cat fur that lays facing south, the chances for box tipping here is roughly 2.7% ;-)

It is much kinder to cut holes for them, especially the older ones who may have mobility problems. Also, they don't know what they're jumping into, could be a pile of poo or pee. Gandalf occasionally steps in pee even with the big boxes because of his arthritis. He's not nimble enough now to know he's sitting his foot down on something ucky.

yes, I have pee-ers who pee outside the door. Put a washable mat down. I bought rubber door mats I can wash off with a hose.

I hope it helps him. Maybe make a big deal out of it for him once you set it up - like close everyone else out of the room and show him, put him in it, talk to him excitedly. If he is anything like Gandalf as I suspect, he is very smart and will "get it." Let him use it first before someone else does. if you could get a sample of his own waste and put it in the box so he can smell his own scent, that might seal the deal. Remember that he was in an only cat household before - maybe that has something to do with it too - he doesn't like using boxes after other cats.

Trying to think like a cat.....may sound crazy but their level is much more basic than ours. Other cat stink = not for me. Even though he gets along fine with them.

Too late, Vicky!. I brought the bin up from the car, and immediately had 3 cats interested as I walked through the door. I told Jeddie, who was one of the 3, that I had something for him, but he walked away. I dumped the whole jug (20 lbs) of litter in there and set it in the tub, sans door hole, and went to get Jed.

Meanwhile, Ariel was using the other box in there (the "kitten" box). I didn't even have to call Jeddie as I think he was already wanting/needing to pee and was walking back down the hallway to the bathroom. First, he had to inspect Ariel and her pee spot, but he was also sniffing the air for the new smell, locked on to it and jumped up on the tub side, paused a second, and jumped down into the box and immediately peed a nice long pee. Ariel tried to get in there with him, but I called her away.

I gave him plenty of praise as he exited and walked past me.

BTW, his evening PS was 160.

Funny that Ariel wanted to get in there with him and she had already gone! I hope this new box does the trick!

I am keeping all fingers and toes crossed that he keeps using it. (makes it difficult to type  )

He is such a sweetie pie otherwise. I can't believe that anyone gave him up without a fight. And, while I do think that a 5th cat may have been one too many, they are all getting along very well. It really is as if I had him all along.

I upped his dose to approx .35u. It's where the top of the stopper is above the .5u line by about half it's width - so more than .25u and less than .5u (which if absolutely accurate would be .375u ). And his last two PSs were just about 130. This is on the new meter and about an hour after eating because his schedule got messed up over the weekend, but I will be late tomorrow night so I saw no good reason to move the shot time twice.
