Jeddie can climb ladders

And not the ones that are "set up", the ones that are folded and leaning against a wall.

I am putting some of that wire closet shelving into my tiny walk-in closet. It was a center ceiling light with a long pull chain. Normally, the cats do not have access to this closet, but I have to keep the door open to work in there. That hanging chain was way too tempting so I slung it over a hanger - and he was fixated on it. He climbed up two rungs while I wasn't looking - so I got him down. Next he was up to the 3rd. And I got him down. He is very fast and with my back turned for an instant he was up to rung four. He could see that darn chain, but not figure out how to get it (he contemplated climbing the rest of the way on me - I could tell. I got him down. He sat there looking up and meowing his fool head off. When I stepped two feet out of the room to grab my hammer he climbed to the fifth rung and before I could put down the hammer and get him off safely, he tried for the top rung - and fell, trying to grab me as he went (1.5" gash on my forearm). angry(2)_cat He was undeterred. I moved the ladder out of the room and he tried to climb the shelving unit (one of those 14" jobs with rods attached on either side). I finally took him out of the room and put him in one of his sleeping places. By the time he came back he forgot what he was after and simply got underfoot. ohmygod_smile

He is blond after all.....oh, I forgot....reddish blond....

That is too funny that he climbed the ladder to get to the chain! I only have aluminum ladders and my cats have always been scared of them because of the clanky noise they make. Is yours aluminum? I would think that kind would be hard to climb.

Too funny. Very determined young man Jeddie is.
Hope your arm is ok.
I have a pull down ladder going to my attic. I have to have a spotter when I go up there. Someone to spot cats and swat them off of the steps before they access the attic. 1/2 of them probably wouldn't want to come down.

Yeah, its aluminum - and he has those furry foot bottoms too. I don't know how he did it. Pure, undiluted determination, I guess. And the other cats always run from the ladder when I move it around because of the "clanky" noise.

Well, I think Maine Coon types are very determined cats at most anything they set their mind to. I will never know how Gandalf got down off my balcony when he was young and I lived in a second floor apartment. He had to have executed some deft acrobatics even for a cat to do it.

Was there a tree nearby? How far was the drop? My parents had a cat jump from a third floor window and land on concrete. He did it on purpose (the jump, I mean). My father thinks he strained his feet because he walked very gingerly for a few days.

When I opened the closet door to set up and finish the project, Jeddie was right there, looking UP. He hunted around for something to climb on, but I had unfolded and moved the ladder - and was soon standing on it. He got up on his back legs - full stretch to try - and reach the cross brace which was 40" off the ground. He could just get his paw on it, but no leverage - so he tried my foot. Luckily, I was wearing shoes. Then he gave up.

When I first got him I think he had some neuropathy. I didn't know that at the time, but he seemed to walk a little on his hocks. He has very furry feet in the back so it was hard to tell. He also pulled himself up onto the bed with his front paws and a little "hop" of his back feet. Now he can stand upright on his toes and he clearly walks on his toes, so now I can see the difference. So the whole ladder thing is good, in a way, it shows he is stronger.

hey maybe Jeddie was a carpenter past life and nobody told him he's been let go? Or spiderman?
hope your scratch isn too bad...that boy really gives you a run for yuor money!
