Hi haven't posted on here for a while. I was wondering if someone could have a look at jaspers numbers for me as im a little concerned. At the begining of June I went away for a few days and my daughter was coming in and testing him/giving insulin. His numbers started going up which I assumed was stress. When I came home i thought I would be able to bring him back under control fairly quickly cause hey I had only been away for 5 days. 3 weeks later and he's still not right. Previously he rarely needed insulin twice a day normally he was getting .25u either once a day or once every second day. Now he's needing insulin twice a day and instead of sitting around the 8 - 10 mark he's creeping up to the high teens. The vet thought his insulin might be going off so i have replace the vile. She has said that his pancreas could be reactive (not sure what she means by this - this was an email conversation) but i will be speaking to her next week so will ask then. I know his bg isn't really high but this change is concerning me. Thanks

Whatever is going on, you dose the insulin around it. If that means going to twice a day, do so.

Without any mid-cycle tests, it is impossible to see if how low he is going. You want him safely above 50 mg/dL using a human glucometer and preferably under 150 mg/dL. Can you get any more tests in during the week - maybe before bed, or when you leave/get home for work.

Have you developed a sliding scale for Jasper? This is where lower preshot values get a lower insulin dose and higher preshot values get a higher dose.

Are you testing for urine ketones?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I have him on a sliding scale, he hypos very easily so his max dosage Has been .75. Tonight he was 18 and normally this would be .50u but I gave him .75. I am gong to slowly increase his scale but cant do a curve until this weekend as im not in during the day. My concern is that there's something else going on in e background thats causing his BG to go up.

Check mouth for inflammation and tartar.
Watch size of urine deposits - frequent and small could indicate bladder/renal infection, stones, cystitis
Eyes and nose - clear or gummy with discharge?
