Greetings, LL!
Many apologies for my persistent absence from this fantastic place and its amazing peeps and cats. This has been the year of curve balls and tailspins, and the few latest ones knocked me off my feet for a while. Among them was learning that my father's house had been sold and all its contents, all photographs and memories of my childhood and my life, had been moved to Germany by my "mother" (though I have a whole host of alternate nouns on the tip of my tongue for this creature, and am using the term for lack of a better word to convey the deplorable genetic fact), meaning they are lost to me. And learning that one of my closest friends (and the only one who also lives in South Africa - all my other friends live at least a continent away) knew about it and didn't tell me. Also, Luca was injured in what we think was a freak accident in the garden on an exceptionally windy day - a thorn or something like that must have smacked into his eye, puncturing his cornea and causing his eye to bleed internally. I was terrified for days that he would not regain his sight, but he is thankfully on the mend and almost back to his usual self. These are the highlights, though alas there are a number of other long stories that have been similarly consuming, well, everything. I have wanted to be here, but it simply wasn't possible. I've thought of you all so often, especially through the happy days - hopefully, those of you who celebrate it had a lovely Thanksgiving - and the awful losses that, as always, gave LL its ups and downs.
As the years wind down, I'm slowly getting back on my feet. I hope that I'll be back soon to help out our newbies and not-so-newbies. I've missed you all. Please know that I wasn't absent by choice. I want to be here, and I will try to be back as soon as I can. I also hope that, Heavens (and the Mayan calendar) willing, next year will be a better one for all those of you who feel, as I do, like this one has kicked their ass, not to put too fine point on it...
I miss you and think of you all.
Hugs,
Jane
