Jack passed his off the juice trial! As of today, my sweet little sugar baby is officially in remission.
I still tested him this morning before his breakfast. I'm sure I will continue to do this for a while. I plan on testing him for the rest of his life. If diabetes returns, I want to get it right away.

I don't know if this would have happened if I hadn't found this message board. My vet instructed me to give him 2 units twice a day, and never talked about home testing. Jack never got the full 2 units, and from the beginning his BG numbers slowly went down. His first insulin shot was February 22nd, and 3 months later he is off the juice!

Thank you, everyone, for your support and help. I'm going to stick around and keep paying it forward! :bighug:

Congrats Jack and Mommy!!! I remember seeing his SS a week or two ago and thinking to myself "wow those are some great numbers", I'm happy to hear he's a free man! XD

Thank you! I can't believe how excited I was this morning. I think I'm always going to celebrate his remission day!

@Daddy Jack's Mommy
My wholehearted congratulations to both of you, what an achievement!

I'd appreciate if you can share your feeding routine - I see you feed both commercial and raw with EZC. So do I.
What is the ratio of canned to the raw?
And what is the carbs level in your regular LC canned?
Overall, would you say that feeding raw helped?

Again, congrats!

Ezcomplete has been a relatively new addition to their eating routine. I have five cats, and two of them instantly took to the raw food and prefer that over canned. My sugar baby eats it but I have to add freeze dried duck liver, as a topper, to get him started. I also do the same for another one of my females. And lastly, I have a cat with no teeth who I have to water down the raw to make it easier for him.

I started slow, but at this point I think well over half of their food is raw. Joey eats only raw when it's offered, and doesn't bother with her canned food. Celie fills up mostly on raw and just munches on any canned food that may be there at the end. My other three eat a good amount of raw, but then eat some of the canned that I offer afterwards. Breakfast and dinner is focused around raw food, with a little bit of can offered afterwards for those who didn't eat enough of the raw. Lunch--which is a smaller meal-- is usually just strictly canned food. I also offer canned, at the end, for the benefit of my come-back-later and graze cats (like the one without teeth), and for my CKD kitty (so she can have additional wet food). I like leaving canned to graze, as opposed to the raw, so I don't have to worry about leaving raw out too long.

I give them low carb and low phosphorus canned, as I also have a cat in the early stages of kidney failure (Celie). I stick to all low carb, under 5%. Right now they're eating Weruva's chicken Frick-a-zee at 3% carbs, Dave's chicken and beef at 4%, and Whole Earth Farms Duck Pate when I can get it, also at 4%.

It's hard to say whether I notice a change yet. I noticed a change when I switched from dry food to canned food a few months ago. A couple of my chunky cats slimmed down, and all of their coats look healthier. But the raw is still new, so it's hard to say. However, I have noticed that their stools are less stinky! I've also noticed that their stools are more well-formed with no watery stools, and overall there is just less poop in the litter box. And I have to add that I think the addition of raw may have been partly responsible for bringing my CKD girl back into normal kidney values at this time. And it may have also helped bring Jack into remission. I'm going to continue doing it.

And how about you? What are your experiences with EZ complete?

Thank you for the info!
What are your experiences with EZ complete?

EZC rocks!

Ducia is ready go raw only at any time, thanks goodness.

I add their ready Premix (chicken liver formulae) to home cooked poultry, medium rare to rare.
(the cooking is only to kill the surface bacteria, I'd like Ducia to eat raw.)

My dilemma is that my cat does better BG wise if she eats 5%-8% carbs, or so it seems.
I tried 3 or 4 cycles on HM raw exclusively and got high blue and yellow flat cycles.
Backed up immediately.
The current ration is about 40% raw a day. I am working to extend but hate to see higher numbers.

Now that I know you have large feline family your OTJ achievement shines even brighter!
My very best wishes to you all.:)

Just keep on doing what works!
I also plan on continuing to up the amount of raw versus canned, but I think I will always offer some canned (for the reasons above).
And thank you for your kind words! I think all of my cats have benefited from jack's dx, because it made me re-think their diets. All of them are now healthier!

@MamaMug He did it!!!!!
Although not nearly as beautiful as Gato's OTJ meat cake, Jack enjoyed his OTJ Celebration Plate for sure! He even shared some with his sister Dede. And yes, those are low carb dry kibbles that Jack had no interest in. They dulled by comparison. After all, there was raw chicken on that plate. (Dede begged to differ and gobbled those kibbles right down!)
I hope Gato is enjoying the honeymoon!

YAY!! Congrats Carolyn! Jack is very lucky to have such a caring mama. Enjoy the (relative) peace of mind that comes with it!

May I ask which low carb dry kibbles you are feeding? I purchased Tiki Cat's dry kibble and the carbs are at 11% so I stop feeding them. My cat's where eating main meal of FF or Friskies pate and dry food for in-between. Would like to go back to the dry but afraid as Mango has only had one BS of 187 in the two weeks of insulin shots and afraid of giving to may carbs. FF is very low at 1-2 carbs. He does get 200 readings.

There are two that I know of that have low carbs. I use Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein Chicken, and I ordered it from Chewy's. I do believe it's under 5% carbs, but I'm not positive. The other is Young Again Zero, which I believe is carb-free. I've never used Young Again, but a lot of people here have used that. However, some have found that their cats have digestive issues with that one. My cats love Dr. Elsey's. I only use it sometimes as a treat for testing Jack, although I usually use freeze dried shrimp or duck liver. I also occasionally use it as a treat for my non diabetic cats. It's costly, but worth it if you want to supplement with dry food. Just keep an eye on Mango's BG levels to make sure that the food doesn't elevate it. It's not supposed to, but every cat is different. :cat:

On Mango's reading that were in the 200's when he was still eating the Titki Cat.dry along with the wet. When I cut it out haven't seen those reading again! So I gave him a small bit for a mid day snack and will see what his PMPS reading is.

So did his blood glucose go down when you removed the dry food? And are you trying a little bit of it again now and then testing his BG to see what happens? I tried to check out your spreadsheet, but it isn't updated.

The SS sheet should be functional now. I gave Mango a mid day snack of the Tiki Cat dry. So dinner time is a hour away and will post that test. I really can't remember when I stopped the dry as I forgot to make a note. I'm guessing a week ago.

I'm curious...
I didn't know that Tiki brand had a low carb dry. I'm afraid to give dry consistently, although I know that some members supplement with low carb dry without a problem. However, others have said that it raised the BG. Just be cautious...
I'll check back later to see what Mango's PMPS looks like.

Tiki Cat is 46% protein and 11% carbs. I will watch the BS reading when I do give it as a snack. He loved his dry in-between meals but also loves the wet food.

Dr. Elsey's website states that the Clean Protein Chicken in 0% carbs.
11% carbs
11% is a little bit above what is recommended, and it may be even higher once the dry matter is calculated. If you want to use dry along with canned, maybe think about using Dr. Elsey's and keep an eye on the BG numbers. It's great that Mango loves her wet food too!

Now it's your turn to go through withdrawal......testing withdrawal. It took me forever to stop having sudden shuddering moments thinking I hadn't tested my girl only to realize I didn't need to. :woot:
Oh yea. Eventually, I have to let that testing go! I think Jack's going to go through withdrawal too! I didn't test him yesterday morning, and he stood at that bathroom door looking terribly confused. For now I'll still be testing him every day, and maybe even a couple times a day. His numbers are in the high nineties and even the low blues. I need to know that they're not going to gradually crawl up. It may just be that that's his normal glucose level without insulin. Tonight it was only 72, and I was happy. I know eventually I do have to stop poking the poor guy, but he doesn't seem to mind it at all. It's well worth freeze dried duck liver in his opinion.

Yes I am going to order a bag of Dr Elsey's from Chewy. I get all my per supplies from them. Love the quick delivery and since I am not close to a pet store as I live in a rural area, makes sense for me.

Chewy's really is quick! I like that too. And I think Mango will like Dr. Elsey's. All my cats like it, and Mango seems pretty agreeable. And Chewy's will refund your money if she doesn't like it, which is another great thing about Chewy's.

Gato shocked me the other day. He's been pretty happy to not test and stopped begging around his testing spot within a day or so. When I went to grab the meter kit for his weekly test he went RUNNING to his test spot, excited for a treat!

That's adorable...
I love how much Jack and I have bonded over his testing ritual. He purrs the entire time, and I never would have expected that from Jack. (He's a super nervous nilly.)
