2 1/2 weeks ago I went away camping with my two young daughters for one week, we have now been home for a week 1& 1/2 since being home I have only been able to get her to eat enough food to give her a full dose ( 1 unit ) one time & a half unit one time. I have been periodically checking her levels and the last time I checked was this morning it was 11.6 . I have tried different canned foods, as well as a tin of tuna, sardines, sliced raw steak, yogurt and treats she will eat NOTHING! This morning ( it's now midnight here ) I syringed into a mixture of water & canned cat food to try and perk her up a bit but she is just wasting away to skin over bones. My heart is so torn up , I'm having a hard time just sitting here beside her & petting her with clumps of the coming off her into my hand. It feels like she has given up. Her pokey boney little body is more than I can bare.

Have you checked her for ketones? Is she nauseous? (seem interested in eating but just sniffs and walks away?)

If it's none of those, you might want to try an appetite stimulant like cyproheptadine or mirtazapine

Another option that I'd seriously consider is a different insulin, like Lantus or Levemir...they're much gentler and better for cats and since you live in Canada, you can buy them OTC

I have not checked her for ketones she just hides under the bed. When I force her out she is limp in my arms, when I put her down in front of food or water she just walks away. If I don't pick her up from under the bed I wouldn't see her at all not by the water or litter box or to lay somewhere else. When I syringed fed her she didn't even have the slightest bit of resistance, when I let go of her face her head just dropped limp in my arms. How do I know when I'm asking too much of her to go on. She has got to be just hovering at 2 pounds now.

We go in first thing in the morning. We live out in the country and the vet will take in as soon as he opens. When my husband spoke with him earlier on the phone he said we may be faced with some tough decisions.

My heart goes out to you. Sending prayers and healing thoughts for J.J., and strength and hugs for you. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

When my husband spoke with him earlier on the phone he said we may be faced with some tough decisions.

Follow your brain not your heart, although that's the hardest thing in the world to do.....Take some time tonight and "talk" with JJ.....let her "tell you" if she's done fighting and wants to rest. It doesn't have to be done tomorrow...if you need a day or two to say goodbye, take it. Be at peace with the decision you make

Sending prayers for tomorrow for all of you

So very sorry to hear J.J is not well. I just saw your post. I agree she needs to see a vet and that J.J will let you know what the right decision is. Sending prayers and healing energy for J.J and hugs for you. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

J.J's suffering has now come to an end. She was in a lot of pain this morning & was having a lot of trouble breathing. We were blessed it went smoothly at the vet's & were able to put her to rest under our front pine tree where our beloved boxer was placed last year after lengthy battle with cancer. Thank you all so much for all the support and advice as we went through this journey. Bless you and your fur babies cat_wings>o

Oh Jenn, I am so very sorry to hear J.J. has gone to the bridge. You were her guardian angel and now she is yours. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
Rest in peace little J.J.

So sorry to hear it was JJ's time to leave you, Jenn

You did the right thing though....You listened when she told you she'd had enough. That's what true love is.

Fly free sweet JJ and land softly. There are many at the bridge to welcome you and keep you company until the time when the one you love most comes to be with you forever cat_wings>o

I am so sorry for your loss. Hold close and cherish all your wonderful memories of her and your time together, and she will live forever in your heart. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Fly free, sweet J.J., until you are reunited with the heart that loves you most cat_wings>o

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's such a difficult decision and it takes a lot of strength to make it. Hold onto the good memories tightly. xx

Thank you all for your kindness. I like to think that J.J is with my son who passed in 2003 when he was nine & with my boxer who passed last year. Although my son never had a chance to meet them he loved animals of all kinds. I know J.J is not alone & is done with all her hurting. Last night was very difficult for my little girls but I think even they realize it was for the best. This weekend we will be going on the hunt for the purrrfect little cat statue to put on her spot.

Jenn, I'm SO sorry it was JJ's time to cross but what a life of love you all shared together. BIG HUGE Looooooooong hugs.

Soar high on your new Angel wings sweet girl....landing softly back in your family's broken hearts.

Thoughts and prayers for comfort for all of you left with a huge JJ-shaped hole in your hearts,
