Little One

Member Since 2012
Hello - I have not been on this board in over a year as my Little One had gone into remission. He has started acting a little funny again over the last couple of weeks so we tested his BG tonight before he ate. He was setting at 136 which I know is not real bad, but not as low as we would like to see it. When we got home he came down the hall way meowing and walking gingerly on his back legs and seemed a little out of it. Earlier in the day I also found him lying under our bed which is different for him. Anyways, we fed him as normal and he ate like he hadn't eaten in a week. Then he drank a little then went and used the litter box. I actually had to help him in because he didn't seem like we was going to be able to get in on his own. He then went back and ate some more. I know when he was first diagnosed in August of 2012 he would eat, drink and pee like crazy. We tested him again about 1 hour after eating and his BG was only 137.

One question I have is I can't for the life of me remember if you are supposed to test then feed or feed then test. I believe it was feed, test then shoot if needed.

I know not to give any units as long as he is under 200 and we wouldn't be able to anyway because the insulin we have is well beyond its expiration date.

Anyway, just looking for some quick feedback. Going to test again in the AM and just want to make sure I get the order correct.

I think I would test him before feeding and then test again about 3 hours later to see if he brings himself down with food.

I hope he is doing better, today.

You want to test before you feed. You may want to take him to the vet to have him checked out. 137 is not very high, but he may have an infection that may be the cause of the increase.
