My 11 year old Kitty came to me with newly diagnosed diabetes and recent urinary + litterbox problems. In 2018 she was eating Hill's dry urinary food, which seems to have 55% carbohydrate. If I subtract the protein and fat content. Then she was put on mostly dry and a bit wet Royal Canin, which was not a ton better. She was 14.4 lb. And even 19 lbs months before that. One test of blood glucose showed 377 (probably Cat, Not Human, measurement).
Now she is 12.3 lb, eating carb-free chicken classic canned Fancy Feast and a bit of completely fresh chicken + bonito flakes and has rates in the 70s - 90s on my human meter. I took her off insulin (1 --> .5 --> .25 twice a day to 0 in 2 weeks) this morning and tested her at 2 and 4 hours after she ate. Look at the charts. It seems crazy.
Should I do a curve tomorrow as well, then do one every 3 days or so to see how she is doing? When would her highest level of glucose be, like two to three hours after she eats? Maybe I can just test it then. I would be so thrilled if she is in remission! Thank you so much for any advice.
