What do I do. She eats every 2 hours. She gulps it down. When she eats. There have been quit a few morning she hasn't wanted to eat, but once meds kick in she is famished. Still waiting to start pancreatitis booster and glucosure because she won't eat it in her food. I am keeping things out of the food as much as possible because will not eat it. She still needs to gain about 2 pounds. I just wonder if I am pushing a rock uphill?

Chuck didn't have issues with pancreatitis but did need to gain weight. I increased his food and his insulin had to increase because of it too. He still needs to gain around a pound so he's still getting extra food. It took him about 6 months to gain 2 pounds. I suspect it was because he is unregulated and was no where near regulation. He gets two 5.5oz cans of 9 lives a day with 1 ounce of FF kitten food (was 2 tablespoons of Young Again zero mature).
It was a slow process but it's possible.

how many ounces is she actually eating in a 24 hour period. If she needs to gain weight then I would just give her what she wants as long as it's not two hours before preshot testing.... even if it means adjusting her insulin accordingly. She's still unregulated, so she needs the extra food.

She is getting about 4 -4 1/2 cans of ff classics. In a 24 hour period. But alot of times she doesn't eat the 1/2 can over night. She gained about 7 ounces since Jan.

That's not excessive. It's like two cans of Friskies. If she's hungry feed her.

I tend to agree. I don't think the food is what is keeping Phoebe's numbers elevated right now. I think she just hasn't hit the breakthrough insulin dose yet. In the meantime, she's underweight, she's hungry, go ahead and feed her!

It's crazy she had such a slight reaction to such a high dose. Has she been tested for acromegaly? Maybe a switch to Levemer, ProZinc or some other insulin?

We talked about testing her for acro, just don't have the money for that or switching insulin. I have plenty of lantus now. And the treatment would be increased insulin right? I know her pancreatitis is bad and her IBD is too. :( I think they are working against her. It's so hard watching her not enjoy her life and always just wanting to eat. We need to look at the QOL scale again. It's hard to know if we are just making her suffer and being selfish, or if there's a chance we can help her. We can't afford an internist, I know that would probably help her. It's just not doable. And I feel like **** because we cant. I've never been someone who couldn't do what they need to do, until my injury. Now are hands are tied. I just don't know how more she can take. Sorry for the going off in a tangent.

Ah I didn't realize the pancreatitis was on going. That definitely works against her. My cat had a flare of it once but certainly not ongoing. Be GLAD she's hungry then! Am appetite with pancreatitus is a good thing.

some people with cats with ibs issues find that they come from food sensitivities. so another thing you could try would be limited ingredient or novel protein options such as rabbit.

She had ff chicken pate only for about 6 years. Only when she got sick last November has she not wanted to eat it. I have started trying the others, like beef and liver, liver and chicken, grilled feast, Beef, she won't eat the turkey and giblets, at least not this week. Should I just use one kind for how long? Note any differences, then try the next flavor.

What about those newer Fancy Feast Naturals? They're listed as 0% carb so may not impact her numbers much. :)

None of my cats have that issue, so i can't really answer that for you. The only one I have with any food sensitivities is my cat Julie who can't digest pork... it gives her TERRIBLE diarrhea. If you search for some old threads on that topic I'm sure more info would come up.
@JanetNJ cats with ibs issues

She has IBD is that the same as ibs?
sorry i meant IBD... they are similar but IBS isn't as sever as there isn't the inflammatory issue. I just know IBD is sometimes a result of a food allergy... and if you could figure out what the allergy is to it could help. I know merrik and nature's variety make some. Have you tried a different protien like duck or rabbit?

I saw those they are 1.00 a serving :nailbiting: but if it would help her numbers. I am getting gelcaps Monday to start the glucosure and pancreas booster. Hoping those will help her.

We have tried duck treats that's a no go. Haven't tried rabbit anything. Is there can foods that have rabbit? Or only raw?

Not an expert, but things I noticed.... High wbc... Looks like an infection. The red blood cell count could be higher, but her hct is a bit better so less danger of anemia. She was borderline anemic before. The b12 must be helping that. Oh! I see her ph is 6.5 and she tested positive for ketones! What are they gunna do about that?

They treated her for that in jan. I put the dates at bottom will change that. She gave her an antibiotic for infection.

It won't let me enter date at top or I'm just computer illerate.

@Marje and Gracie would you mind looking at labs. The first column is Jan 2017, second column March 2017. There was no urinalysis, no urine. We are going back this week to get a urinalysis. Now that I am learning this FD dance, I am realizing what and how bad she was back in jan.

I’ll be glad to. I’m just getting the “kittens” fed and our dinner so if you don’t mind just a bit of patience, I’ll be back around in an hour or so. Thank you!! :bighug::bighug:

Thank you!!

I fixed the dates for you. The text was formatted to be in white instead of black.

Also looks to me like she's got a minor inflammation/infection. Her hematocrit (HCT) is still pretty low. It is above the point that we consider her to be anemic but it should ideally be above 40. The B12 injection is definitely good for her IBD. Infection/inflammation can impact the HCT and often if the infection is addressed, the HCT will rise.

For CKD cats, we use oral methylB12 and a multi B but I don't know that it would would have the same effect for her since the reason she is anemic is not due to the kidneys; in the case of CKD, the kidneys can no longer make erythropoetin and the B vitamins help that process along.

Everything looks fine. :)

They gave her antibiotic for the infection. And will make sure to continue the B12 shots. So glad as Janet said kidneys look good. :) thank you.
