Is the Relion Prime accurate?

Heh, I know I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but I just saw it today when at Walmart picking up more Relion Ultima strips for Tip.

I was wondering though, how accurate is it? When I tested Tip with the Ultima(one she's been using), it came up as 303. Then I tested twice with the Prime and it came out as 247 and then 217.

However, then I tested both on my Civvie, she runs from 65-75 on the Ultima depending on what kind of treats I give her during the day(don't worry, Tip gets her chicken as a subsitute when Christmas gets some of the higher-carb treats I'm phasing out). So I tested her and the Ultima came up as 71 and the Prime came out at 59, which is only a 12 point difference.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Definitely looks like it's running ~40-50 points lower compared to the Ultima when tested on Tip.
 
I don't have the answer, but am very interested since I switched to the Relion Prime to save money on test strips. I didn't know there was an issue with the Prime. I didn't have any more test strips from the old meter to compare, so know I am concerned.
 
Sorry to cause any concern, just curious to see how they compare, especially since my specific Ultima is 60 pt's lower than my vets Alpha Trak, so I can easily just say "The new difference is <insert number>". All the numbers seem to be, more or less, within that 20% variance, I know consistency is best, which is my main concern.
 
Okay, so I just ran out and got a Relion Confirm and tested Benjamin with both meters, exactly the same at 239. I have heard that meters are less reliable at lower numbers, so I will continue to compare them and see what happens.
 
I bought a Prime over the weekend and have been comparing it to my Aviva Accucheck. The Prime is running lower than the Aviva--the difference it greater at higher readings, which I'd expect. My first comparison was Aviva-300, Prime 240, so that concerned me. My most recent test was Aviva-303 and Prime-276. At a low reading, I think I had Aviva at 63 and Prime at 48. I'll probably continue to do double testing until I run out of Aviva strips, which will be in the next couple days, and then will stick with the Prime because of the cost. I'm just going to trust that consistency of readings is more important, and as long as I'm using the same meter each time, I'll be okay (coupled with watching Snickers' insulin response).
 
That's odd. This morning I tested Tip and her Ultima came up as 400 and the Prime came up as 391. Maybe I was just getting way too much blood or something? I know I'm still getting used to not hearing the beep to let me know it's done. And it seems to sip up the blood A LOT faster than the Ultima, even though there's a .1 microliter difference.

I've still got quite a few since I bought a box of 20 strips for my Ultima and ~100 for the Prime when I got the new meter to make sure I can seamlessly transition to the new one. So hopefully it'll give me consistent numbers....will have to inform my vet of the change.
 
seems to be fine in my house. actually runs closer to Idexx's numbers my vet got on recent labwork than my old meter did. the difference wasn't much though, maybe 20-30 points if i remember correctly
 
The FDA permits glucometers to be within 20% of the "true" value

100 is really 80 to 120
200 is really 160 to 240
300 is really 240 to 360
and so on

If the low test value plus 20% overlaps a high test value minus 20%, they are essentially the same value.

Aviva: 320 - 20% = 256.0
Prime: 292 + 20% = 350.4

The ranges overlap and therefore indicate the same level of glucose.
 
I just checked again, and the Confirm result was 150 while the Prime result was 158. Close enough for me!
 
Yeah, I'm starting to see results within 20% now that I'm getting the hang of the new meter. Thanks all for the input. :)
