Is remission possible with my kitty?

I know there's no definitive answer of course, but she has only been diabetic for a few months. Please look at my spreadsheet.

She was peeing outside the litter box and had urinary troubles before she was diagnosed. The previous owners finally gave her to the animal shelter, which diagnosed her.

Since being on insulin she has had no problems, but the shelter had her on dry Royal Canin food. I have her on Fancy Feast. Hoping that will make the difference.

I also have her on a diet to go from 13 to 10 pounds. She has already lost .5 lbs in 3 weeks.

Her numbers are pretty low, but she has exhibited no signs of hypoglycemia. I changed her from one unit to a half a unit of insulin twice-daily. I want to do a curve on her and the vet said I had to give her this exact same dose of insulin every day for 10 to 14 days. So I'd rather not skip.

Your cat is looking AWESOME!!!

I am concerned though that you're only doing Pre-shot testing and not getting any mid-cycle tests. Lantus dosing is based on how low it takes them, so it's important to get tests sometime between about +5 and +7. If she drops below 50, she earns an immediate reduction (and she may be doing that!)

Now for the better news.....Your kitty has been in normal numbers for 7 days so it's time to reduce the dose down to .25 unit twice a day.

If she can continue to maintain those great numbers for another 7 days, you'd reduce down to .1 unit....another 7 days and down to 1 drop.....then it's time for an OTJ trial!!

We like to keep them on insulin as long as safely possible so we give the pancreas as much time to heal as we can. We want to get a strong remission, not necessarily a fast one!

Looks like changing her to a low carb canned diet has really helped her....both her numbers and her weight!!
