Is reactive hypoglycemia a thing in cats?

My cat seems almost always low BG 1 hr after eating, then slowly rises back up after a few hours.

I find it super weird as I can't find anything talking about it online in animals, just humans.

What you're seeing is a sputtering pancreas. Your kitty's pancreas is healing. What that translates to is that the pancreas is doing what it should. You feed your cat and the pancreas produces insulin in response. This is called endogenous insulin When insulin is transporting glucose into the cells, the glucose isn't floating around in your cat's blood stream. Thus, numbers are lower.

However, I don't see big drops in Dexter's numbers. There are a few things to keep in mind. There is up to 20% variability in any test result you get due to the meter and strips. So a pre-shot of 124 is pretty much the same number as a +1 of 115. Insulin onset with Lantus begins at +2. If your cat has an earlier onset, which is entirely possible, you will see numbers starting to drop. My cat had an early onset and nadir. Her numbers would start to drop by +1.
