hi,

may i ask if you know this supplement?
a type of potassium supplement which is potassium gluconate (kaminox by vet plus, a UK company).
http://www.vetuk.co.uk/index.php?main_p ... cts_id=327

since late feb until last week. she was on a potassium supplement because her blood test showed her k was very very low.
it did help her to resume vitality/mobility. you can read the blood test in mid feb at the spreadsheet.

then, vet suggested feeding her 4ml (900mg potassium gluconate) per day for 3 weeks since late feb, then 1-2ml for day until 1 week ago, i quit this as i doubt if it makes her not responding to the insulin.

do u know whether there is anything to do with the problem -- the higher the dose of insulin and higher the sugar level?

thanks

I doubt it would have any adverse effects. The website just says: "Contains 234mg Potassium per ml, with additional B-vitamins and essential amino acids for nutritional support." However, t does not specify any inactive ingredients than might not be the best for a diabetic cat. Also, it does not specify that the potassium is in the form of potassium gluconate. Maybe it is potassium chloride.

We've used potassium gluconate powder (no other ingredients) for over a year - since 11/28/08, to be exact - and have not noticed any significant effect on Meowzi's BGs.

Please be very careful about discontinuing a potassium supplement if it was prescribed by your vet. You should notify your vet that you've discontinued it, so he knows to keep an eye on Siujim's potassium level.

on the bottle, it says potassium gluconate.

vet knew that we stop it as her k+ level back to normal.

thx.
