I recently had Eddie to the vet for a feline acne outbreak and while there the doc examined his teeth and said he has slight gingivitis and suggested I begin using OxyFresh Pet Gel, which I purchased, but upon reading the ingredients I am questioning how safe this product is? Chlorine and carrageenan? I am wondering if anyone knows of a natural product that is as effective? His vet believes that due to his diabetes he is at high risk for a dental. She said his teeth are in pretty good shape except for the gingivitis on the gums. I would like to jump on this right away but am really wary of these ingredients. Would appreciate any feedback!

Carrageenan has pro-inflammatory properties. According to my reading, some research scientists use it to induce inflammation in test subjects in order to test anti-inflammatory drugs.

Thanks Mogs for info. I try to buy carrageenan free cat food. Not sure why I would want to rub it into my cat's gums! Have to call the holistic vet to find a better gingival treatment for Eddie.

Also I have followed the message board quietly and was stunned and saddened when I read about Saoirse. I pray you find healing in the many memories you shared with Saoirse. T

It would be great if you could share anything you learn from the holistic vet; gingivitis is such an issue for sugar kitties.

Thank you for your prayers, T - much needed; I still can't believe it ...
