Same drug. Just remember that its tastes nasty. You probably have the 250 mg tablets and they do not cut evenly even with a pill cutter.

I just refilled my prescription for them today. I give them to my dog, but Chester has had them as well (not anymore...little guy is more constipated than not these days).

I found that purchasing gel-caps (I use the small #4), crushing the drug and putting it inside did away with the flavor problem. If your cat isn't difficult to pill this works.

Another problem is that they seem to dry out, so that they really fracture when you split them after awhile. I asked the pharmacist today if I could use one of those little packets (dessicants?) that absorbs water and keep it in the bottle...he said it was fine.

The good thing is, it's a very cheap drug!

Hopefully, everyone is chasing any pill or capsule with at least 4 cc of water via a syringe or with canned food.

See Pilling Cats at catinfo.org.

'Nother tip - if you coat the tablet with butter or other digestible oil, it helps prevent it from dissolving in the cat's mouth, so it tastes less awful.

And definitely follow with several ccs of water, to make sure the pill gets all the way to the stomach. If it sticks in the esophagus, it can cause irritation and ulceration.

Trying to get the crushed pill into a capsule is very difficult.

I just cut pill into quarters, put each quarter into a gel-cap (#3).

You can then cut the bottom half of the gel-cap off with a scissors before
putting the top back on....makes the pill smaller.

If you do this to all the pills when you first get them (quarter and put in gel-cap),
they should not be so dried out later...they will all be ready to go.

For information, if the tables are drying out and that is causing a problem, adding a desiccant to the bottle/vial will just make them dry out faster. Maybe the tables absorbing water is causing the problem. In that case the desiccant will help.
