Is Lantus "Solostar" the same as regular Lantus?

Yes, it is the same insulin. The pens come in a package of five 3 ml pens while the vial is one 10 ml vial. The insulin the vial almost always goes made before it is used up so using the pens is more economical even though the cost per ml is more for the pens.

The pharmacy might try to sell you the needles that come with the pen...don't get these as they only can shoot in 1u increments. You're going to use the same syringes that you would use for a vial.

Couldn't find a pharmacy that had the pens in stock and had to go with Costco and the vile. Hopefully, they will have the u-100, 3/10 cc syringes with the 1/2 unit marks.

Check Target pharmacy, as they usually have the pens in stock. Or a Canadian Pharmacy will have them in stock (online).

My vet said that he would not hesitate to use Lantus from Canada.

Good luck!

Sam's Club (in Columbus, OH and probably elsewhere) has the disposable Solostar pens too.

Lantus is Lantus. There is no substitue or generic version.

Lantus is availble in three different containers: a 10 ml bottle, a SoloStar pen, or the soon to be discontinued OptiClick cartridge.

No big deal  Just keep in mind that you might get a month, maybe a little more, use out of the 10 ml bottle. When you need more insulin, get the SoloStar pens and find a pharmacy that has it in stock or can order it.

Careful with the half unit marked insulin syringes if you purchase from a pharmacy. The pharmacist may sell you 1/2 cc (50 unit) insulin syringes or insulin syringes with 1/2 inch long needles and insist that is what you want  He/she may even say that half unit marked insulin syringes do not exist  Before you pay, make sure to check the insulin syringe box to be sure that they are the half unit marked ones you want. Many people find it just easier to buy insulin syringes online from Hocks.com or other place.
