Is Lantus left out still good?

With all of Tisha's new medications, I'm having trouble keeping track of everything and I left her insulin on the counter for about 4 hours. Is it still good, or do I need to get a new bottle?

Tisha's numbers remain really high, and I'm just wondering if it's related to leaving out the insulin? Or is this normal for restarting insulin after a week of not eating and pancreatitis?

Yep, still fine. I've left Mikey's out overnight a few times and never had any problems. In fact, the 28 day expiration for Lantus is based on the assumption that it will not be refrigerated (most humans don't refrigerate because they use much larger doses and use it up faster). Accidentally leaving it out every now and again won't make much of a difference.

Since you hadn't been giving Lantus, you're now basically starting over on refilling the Lantus depot so you're going to have to wait for that 5-7 day window before you're likely to see the full impact on Tisha's numbers.

The insulin should still be good, it's been fine the times I've done the same thing. I'm not sure about the vial but the pens say it doesn't need refrigeration...it's refrigerated to help it last longer.

I haven't read all Tisha's condos but I'll bet if you've not been giving insulin, that is contributing to higher numbers.

HUGS!

How's the patient today, Lisa?

Got the update on the other thread. Thrilled she's eating and feeling a bit playful. I love good news!
