Although it's 3 hours until the PMPS, River is hungry. Is it okay to feed him this early? My normal routine has been to arrive home from work sometime before 6 and feed the cats, and at this time give River a small dinner. Then I give River a second small dinner when he gets his evening shot. Is this okay? I don't want to make his PMPS out of whack somehow. But I don't want him to go hungry for hours.

I use ProZinc....and try not to feed my sugarkitty 2 hours before PMPS time.

BUT.....you use lantus....I am not sure about feeding protocol on that insulin. Try posting your question on the Lantus board....I am sure someone will respond quickly.

it's the same for Lantus Missy...2 hours prior to testing is the "no food zone"....LOL

Go ahead and let River have a light snack and then take it up and no more until PMPS is done

Hahahahaha

Yeah, I think we all know "that look"...that "hey mom, don't you love me anymore? I'm starving to death here!!" look :-D

My 6 civies give me the "look".....RumpelT is the restless one. I want food "Mmmmmrrrright Mrrrrrooooowwww" (it actually sounds like she says "Right Now").

Glad I was able to help you a little bit. River not 'starving' now.....they ALL think they are starving all the time. Silly kittehs.

For Lantus - dont feed for two hours before the shot so that your preshot test isnt influence by food.

Good testing today. Can you get a before bed test?

Lets give this dose 2 more days to see how it does and if we dont see any blues or greens by then we increase by 0.25.

Wendy, pre-bedtime test on the way, at 9 PM.
I increased the dose today by .25, so it's up from 2.5 to 2.75. I hope that's okay.

Thanks everybody for letting me know about the food. All of my PMPS before this point are food-influenced.

Misty, Chris: You made me laugh! It's a big thing to deny them, and when you have a baseball team's worth of cats, like some of us do, you can feel outnumbered.

Yep thats fine. But hold this dose 3 days to let it settle.. you wont know the full impact of the dose before then . although its an immediate reduction if he goes under 50

Sounds good. I'll be able to stay close all Labour Day long weekend, so that's perfect.
You know how jumpy I've been about his getting too low too fast. This way he can have a tiny increase during the week, and we can see what needs to be done towards the end of the week.
This has truly been one stressful week. This group has made it bearable for me. I understand so much better now what things mean, like bounces, how to dose him, when to feed and test, and what he needs. And I'm just starting to learn.
