Hi,
My sister have a male cat (Buffy) about a year old and neutered. She is worried that her cat loosing lots of hair or sometimes scratches himself
around the ears and neck area rather roughly. He is very clean with healthy diet!
She is worried sick thinking maybe loosing so much hair is a sign of some illness.
Could someone comment on Buffy's condition, should she be worried or this is a normal thing for cats his age?
BTW, he hardy shed any hair when he was younger , all inputs are most welcome and greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance,
Buffy's uncle!

This time year cats shed. The scratching could be due to fleas or maybe an ear problem like ear mites. I thing a vet visit may be in order.

With the mild(ish) winter Sneakers has started shedding early and profusely.
Could be some hair follicles are hanging on and that might be what Buffy is getting rid of.

I personally think its normal for a cat to loose hair and perhaps it is more so just because of the season.
The first poster mentioned something about ear mites, wouldn't ear mites visible if you look at carefully?
And if the cat is indoor all the time would it be possible for the ear mites to get in his ears?
Thank you all for your comments!

Dry skin, parasites (fleas, mites), food allergy, seasonal allergies, endocrine disorders.

How about starting with a good vet exam, rather than having us guess.
