Joey is on low carb Friskies pates. The other night I put a dab of bacon drippings on it. He seemed to like it. If nothing else, he finally pooped in his BOX last night. I"m wondering if this is just the ticket for his to have an easier b.m. Any comments? Thanks. We are tired of finding it on the floor about 2 feet from the box. It's been a bit dry too so I suspect pain in passing.

Also, what do you all think about Pedialyte in his food to help with dehydration, or is plain water enough?

He is not on insulin yet - I have yet to get a blood sample. He's been OTJ for over a year now.

Re: bacon drippings - I'd be conservative with this due to salt and nitrites (preservative which may be associated with cancer), and if the bacon is sugar-cured, then no.

Are you adding some water to his food? That may help with constipation.

Plain water is fine.

If constipation is a problem, you might try a tiny dose of miralax mixed into the food (I haven't used this; others here have).

Arthritis-associated pain with defecation may cause litterbox avoidance - something to discuss with vet.

Thanks. I don't usually have bacon droppings around ( we eat so little of it) so I'll cancel that idea. He does get Miralax and water with each meal. I guess abt 1/4 tsp. Miralax totaling 3 times a day.

i read somewhere that many cats have trouble with pork, so i don't think i would. i don't know now where that was, but you never see cat food that has pork in it.

do you mix water in with his food? you can make it as soupy as he's willing to eat it. some people add plain pumpkin (canned, not pie filling) for the fiber - like 1 teaspoon per day.

I make it pretty soupy. I will try the pumpkin too. It's finally available again.

I tried him on some salmon juice last night - didn't like it at all.

OK I will knock off the bacon drip.

Thanks
