Is 0.8-1.2 trace ketones on blood tester?

Hey all,

I apologize for not being back sooner as things got crazy. I went to visit my husband's family for a couple weeks and was lucky enough that my sister was able to do blood sugar testing and insulin for my two boys twice daily, plus fooding. She did an incredible job given the stress of it and I was in constant communication guiding her. She wrote down the numbers on a sheet of paper and I'm going to get them added to the spreadsheet, but before that I decided to test both boys for ketones. It is important to mention their appetite is great, they are acting completely normal, drinking, using the litter box etc. Mac's BG was 485 this morning and he received a full 2.25 dose of Lantus. Butters BG was 525, he got 2.5u of Lantus.

What I'm mostly writing to ask about is the ketone blood tester. I tested both boys today and Mac was 0.8, Butters was 1.2. Their previous baseline was 0.2/0.3. Naturally when I saw these numbers I panicked, but from what I saw on the forum in another thread, anything up to 2 can technically be negative for a blood based ketone tester. Is this correct? Again, both boys are acting fine, if a little stressed from my absence (both do territorial/stress peeing despite being neutered and they did a lot of that while we were gone). Am I correct in thinking I can continue to give insulin and lots of food to avoid DKA as long as they don't begin to have symptoms of illness?
