Irritated Eye- Need to worry?

Hey there- My Murphy has been stable at 2.25 for a few weeks now. His mood seems normal, but he's developed an irritation in his left eye.
I tend to worry about every little thing, but wanted to see if this is a "typical signal" of something with feline diabeties.
I hope he's just scratched it, and that it will heal. But, I have gotten so much support on this message board that I thought I'd reach out to see if this might be something further.
I have read what I can online and do not find anything. His eyes are pretty clear, so it is not a cataract issue-

No, it isn't usually associated with FD. An infected eye has thick "goop" and sometimes isn't held fully open. An irritated eye might have watery weeping.

I know you've been away but I'd encourage you to get those pre shot tests again. Those mid cycle yellows suggest that he might need to go to 2.5 u but more data is needed to know for sure. :)
 
Thanks! His eye is not better, so I'll have it checked out at the vet.
I'd say it's "goopy," more so than just watery. I have to clean it. It gets cakes up☹️
Is it still your opinion that it is probably not is probably not FD related?
I'll definitely start testing more frequently and update his chart. He has done so well last week that I was not testing as much. I know I need to start back. Do you think it is safe/accurate to test every other day? I don't like sticking him so much every day when he's doing well. I will if I need to, though.
 
I still think it's not related to FD. If the goop is yellow or green that's a sign of infection and it should be checked out.

I'd recommend testing daily because cat's are notorious for throwing us curve balls.
 
Yes, Kris is correct. A goopy eye isn't related to FD. Sounds like a good idea to get it checked out. Could just be that he got a little scratch on his eye and it's taking some time to heal, but better to get it checked out in case there is an infection.
 
The sugar dance move chart is still something only kitties seem to have the ability to read. It just confuses us beans lol. I hope his eye get's better. Can't tell from past few days of testing without PS numbers but he might run some flat cycles if his discomforted by his eye being goopy. Their moods can effect numbers too. :bighug:

Got it checked out. He had some conjunctivitis in his left eye...most likely caught from his feline brother who suffers from chronic eye issues. That eye was treated and has cleared up, but his right eye is starting to look infected (as of yesterday). Hoping to treat that eye the same for quick recovery. His BG numbers are a bit elevated, and I assume the eye infection could be a contributing factor....I'm watching all closely and will post updates. My poor lil' fella. His spirit/demeanor is good...his other eye is just a bit "squinty" now :-(
 
Ouch eye issues are no fun. Yes, his numbers are probably elevated due to that...hopefully once it clears, he'll get back down.
 
Thanks!! The left eye is fine. I have meds for him, so trying to hurry the healing on the right eye. As for his brother, Freddy, I adopted him on the premise that he was a "blind rescue," but it turned out that he wasn't blind. He just suffered from eye troubles that started when he was a stray kitten with eye infections that went untreated. He's VERY loved, and not blind...just has "not-so-pretty/cloudy" eyes. I love both of these feline fellas so much. They're sweet to each other, too, which is probably why they share eye issues :-(
Murphy's numbers have stayed a bit elevated, I am sure due to his eye infection. Monitoring his BG closely, and he's feeling quite frisky tonight. :cat:
