Hello Everyone! I am new to the Forum and the Facebook group. My Oreo is an 11 year old tuxedo male that was diagnosed with diabetes last fall. He was always a little chubby and I had put him on a diet (Iams healthy weight hard food) last summer. I noticed in the late summer that he was drinking a lot of water and urinating a lot. I had his blood and urine tested at his fall appointment and they let me know he was diabetic.

We started by transitioning to wet food, first 9-lives pate chicken, then DM Purina Savory (which is what he is on now). I started with the Freestyle Libre 2 and 1 U vetsulin 2x daily. The freestlye Libre would only last 6 days or so and it was getting pricey to place it, so I switched to strips with the Alpha trak2 after 2.5 months. He is also switched to Glargine (Basaglar) and we increased slowly to 3U 2x daily and he is still at the lowest 250, high 500. I took advice from reading on the FB group and just today started feeding more than 2x daily because he is scavenging for food constantly and seems stressed.

I look forward to getting more advice and getting my Oreo's sugar under control!

Hi Rachel and Oreo and welcome to the forum.

You have switched to a good insulin for cats…so that’s good!
Im glad you are feeding snacks during the cycles as well as the two main meals. Don’t forget the pm cycles as well to feed extra. That will be much better for him and he will hopefully be less stressed.
What I would suggest is getting your spreadsheet and signature set up so you can start entering data into it for us to see and also the information into the signature so we can find out all about Oreo.
HELP US HELP YOU will have the links for you plus other information.

I’m not sure if the DM Purina savoury is low carb or not
Have a look in this FOOD CHART to see if it’s low carb and foe other options.
Ask a many questions as you like.:)

That DM food is not low carb. The pate DM is okay to feed, though not necessary to pay the price for it. Fancy Feast, Friskies pate is what most use. I think 9Lives is okay. Sheba is fine to use.
