Furball (or Furble) : Spayed female; born April, 1995, so will be 16 in April, 2011.
Diagnosed with FD in April, 2009.
Started on Vetsulin for 8 months; then ProZinc for about 4 months.
Switched to BCP-PZI about a year ago, starting with U-40 but now using U-100.
Have done more or less TR for the last year or so, as much as possible.
Current weight: about 10 lbs – never very overweight, but maybe a pound or so more than ideal weight.
Before diagnosis and while on Vetsulin, she spent a year weighing less than 8 lbs – very thin and frail.
Improved dramatically after starting ProZinc, but had extreme BG spikes. Better since using PZI, but still very erratic.
Using BCP-PZI, U-100; AccuChek Aviva meter; 3/10cc, 29gx1/2" syringes; Abbott Freestyle lancing device.
Feeding mix of raw (scalded) chicken thighs, about 1/4 with skin, ground with bone in, with Fancy Feast classic chicken or turkey & giblets or kitten turkey.

Hello again. And thanks again to Dyana, Sue, and Patrick (hope I have the names right!) for helping me get the spreadsheet in our signature line.

As mentioned above, we've been doing TR as much as possible, which has stretched out to +10s recently. Our major dilemma is that even tho' I've reduced her doses slightly a couple times recently, she still goes way low sometimes (like 39 this afternoon) and then rebounds, with highs in upper 300s or 400s. Also the +10s inevitably need some overnite doses and it's getting harder if not impossible to continue the overnites.

I'm going to start entering her numbers in the spreadsheet and hope that seeing the picture there, some clues or better ideas of what to do will emerge there.

Thanks. Rhea

p.s. Just discovered that the spreadsheet here will not accept entries. Will have to figure this out later. Bummer. It does say "copy of template" so maybe this is something different. Or maybe I have to do something more than just click on a block.

Your spreadsheet comes up for us. You need the one that has ccc in the url, not pub. That is your copy which you alone can add entries to. If you go back and sign onto google, your spreadsheet should be available in your goggle document page. Go to it and copy the url on the top of the page into your favorites. Then you have it handy to add numbers to.

If you have trouble, just send me a pm. I'll be glad to help.

Yes, you are shooting at pretty low numbers. I do not practice TR. I don't think many people here do. We tend to start low and go slow. Your 39 today is technically a hypo number. I would not want to shoot a dose that would take him that low.

Often, with PZI, a low nadir is a sign that you need to lower the dose. So is a long surf that won't allow you to give a pm dose on time.

If I were you, I would take the dose down to 2 units or so. I would be sure to always get a amps and pmps and a nadir number (usually around +6) After 2-3 days, you can see how he settles into the dose and see if you need to lower or raise it.

We do have a PZI forum. It is a small but friendly group. If you want to post over there, you can get some specific answers on PZI and check out some of the other members' spreadsheets. viewforum.php?f=24 It is not as busy as this forum - there tends to be more people on in the am and pm, not in the middle of the day.

Have you seen this sticky on PZI? It is full of information on how PZI works and how best to make it work for your cat: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=32799

Thanks to you again Sue for the PZI sticky this time. I started reading it and will continue to work my way through. Will also visit the PZI section and look and read there for a while. I already reduced Furball's doses today and will reduce again next time. In retrospect, I probably dosed a little too much this evening.

Anyway, I really appreciate all the time and attention you spent on us today! We'll see what evolves from all this! Hopefully improved, more stabilized BGs!
