Well life here got a little exciting last Tuesday :-D Onyx who disappeared the day after Halloween was finally returned to us!!!!! flip_cat Onyx was one of our special needs kids as he has severe food allergies, and has to be on pred. daily to control them. He was returned really no worse for wear, only 2 lbs lighter than when he went missing, and of course his allergies are full blown so his eyes right now look aweful, but he is back on his meds and they are already beginning to clear up. The only other medical condition he came home with was a UTI, also more than likely related to his allergies and being fed dry food and only God knows what else while he was gone. But he is home again safe and sound...and makes either number 2 or number 13 of the Fur Gang, depending on how you want to look at it...lol.

So while he isn't quite his charming and gorgous self just yet....I thought I would share a brand new picture of him..I'm sure he will forgive me for not waiting until he is back to his very best. He is truly a living lesson in Hope and Faith!

When I got the call that he had been found I truly wasn't expecting it to really be him, so I didn't even take a carrier with me, lucky for me the folks that had him, also had a carrier...lol When he saw momma he came running full tilt, flew into my lap and starting purring like crazy. He has yet to meet his newest sister Musette, since he is still recovering, but I have to wonder what he is going to think of her, as he and Muse were my original two cats when I moved back to Nebraska, and they were very close, and he grieved so when Muse went to the Bridge.

Okay now for the rest of the story....Shortly after he went missing about 4 months after, we found ablack cat that could have been his double, but that cat was extremely ill, so we just thought that was why it didn't quite look like Onyx, but we took it in and took it to the Vet's only to discover that it had gone blind from a brain tumor so we helped that cat cross over to the bridge and buried it in the backyard...fully believing it was Onyx....then I had Dawn Allen talk to Maxwell, because at the same time all this was going on Maxwell had developed an aversion to the siamese boys...Well after talking to Maxwell, I asked her to please talk to Onyx, because I wanted to apologize to him for finding him only to have him go on ahead...First Dawn said she couldn't locate him at the Bridge, so I asked her to speak with Muse and ask her if Onyx was there....Muse told Dawn, absolutely not..she knew where he was, but he couldn't physically come home yet...but not to worry he was safe and warm, and being looked after. And when she could she would make sure he got to come home again. But that while Onyx wasn't with her, there was another black cat that didn't have a name, but liked us because we made his head stop hurting.

Okay I was confused...at first I thought well maybe Muse meant that Onyx was already way back to us as a kitten that we had yet to meet...but on the off chance that she really meant that Onyx was alive and well, we left up our flyers, we kept checking the rescues and shelters, and kept calling for him on still nights. Not truly expecting to see him again ever. Then tuesday morning I get a phone call from an elderly lady that lives about 8-10 blocks from me, asking if I was still looking for my neutered black long-haired cat....seems they had him this whole time, but it wasn't until they took him to a groomer that is part of my vet office that they found his microchip and got our information. Now the couple that had him claimed that they didn't keep him in the house, and that he was just coming there to eat..but....he had no fleas, no ear mites, no mats, and his teeth have been recently cleaned. ( Our vet confirmed that the tartar that was present one month before he disappeared was now gone.) I had also asked this same couple shortly after he went missing if they had seen him as I had seen a black cat that looked like him in their window, and they assured me that no they hadn't and the cat I had seen was a female.

Personally I think when his allergies flared and he got the UTI they probably decided he wasn't worth putting any more money into and decided to finally contact us, but I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt and that the cat I first saw there really was one of their's and a female, and it was just by chance that he showed up at their place last tuesday. But as my vet said wednesday when I took him in for a complete physical..."This is the best looking "lost" cat I have ever seen!"

PS. The kitty we helped cross does have a name now...We christianed him post mortem Obsidian since the stone onyx, is often dyed to resemble Obsidian, and the two stones are often confused for each other.

Bless you for not giving up on Onyx. Glad your family is once again whole. Or as whole as it can be. I'm sure Muse had a little something to do with this, like she told Dawn Allen.

That's an amazing story. You're probably right that the allergies got to costly. But thankfully he is home now and he can tell others of his adventure and it will just be an old wives tale someday ;-)

I have a few of my cats microchipped, but I think I should work on doing them all, just in case.

That is a marvelous story, and "When he saw momma he came running full tilt, flew into my lap and starting purring like crazy," was especially touching!

I remember reading your posts on Community when Onyx went missing. It was so heart breaking and every time I saw a post from you, I had hoped Onyx had returned! It was very sad once he did return and you learned of his brain tumor and he had to be put down. And that other kitty that showed up with him...I can't remember her name, but she was adopted...she was beautiful...anyway...I am so very happy that your Onyx has indeed returned to his true home. flip_cat flip_cat

That is an amazing story! What a happy ending. I hope that Onyx feels better soon, but I'm sure he is so glad to be back home and that will help him heal!

Onyx is already doing much better, he has stopped crying everytime he uses the litter box. His eyes are starting to heal up again and we are starting to process of weaning him off the pred again. For the first few days he was home he was hiding in the basement and hissing at his furry family when they would get near him, now he is back upstairs with us again and snuggling with his best buddy Amon Ra. He is slowly getting back into the swing of things again, like coming to eat with everyone else, flopping over on his back when he sees his 'daddy' so dad can rub his belly, and sleeping in a big furry pile with his brothers and sisters.

He still has yet to meet Ms. Musette and Lady Jane Grey as they stay in the bedroom much of their time (their choice not mine) and Onyx isn't much for hanging out in there once we are up and about so they haven't crossed paths yet, hopefully soon I can convince the girls to come out and check out their handsome brother. :-D Maxwell seems to be delighted that there is another older male in the house again to chill with in the rest of the house and he is now waiting at the bedroom door after he gets done eating to come out and spends a lot of his time snuggling with Onyx again. Especially now that we have Onyx weaned back off the dry food, and back on the canned pate-style stuff that is safe for the sugars should they get into his dish...At first all he would eat was dry, then I convinced him that the stuff with gravy really was food, and finally this lst weekend he decided that he remembered how yummy the pate stuff was and began eating with everyone else again...YAY!!!

Now I can start bringing Maxwell and Musette back out into the general population again, as I shut them back in the bedroom to make sure they stayed out the inappropriate food that I had to leave out for Onyx. Of all the cats here...Onyx is the only grazer, so now that I can get rid of both the dry and gravy stuff we can start re-intergrating everyone again...and it figures he would come home right as I was starting to convince Musette that the other cats weren't going to eat her...lol. Now if I could just convince Lady Jane of that, she has been here almost a year and if I either open the bedroom door or bring her out into the general population she runs and hides or completely freaks out, although she will play for hours under the bedroom door with the other cats.

I love stories like this - including the name you gave the other black cat. There is something fishy about where he has been, but maybe someone else took him and they were the ones that dumped him when his allergies got bad and the couple found him after that. Who knows? Very interesting about what the communicator told you.

When I was a kid my family kept two brothers from a litter my cat Melanie had, but they ended up fighting and one ran away. I found him and brought him back after a week, but he ran away again. I found him after six months and brought him back but he ran away again and would not come to me anymore. For a while I knew where he lived (in a garage a block over). He became totally feral. Then, four years later, he showed up on our back porch in bad shape and really wild. My father went out to get him and he was flinging himself all over the place, climbing the screens, etc. My dad had big leather gloves on and finally caught him and put him in the basement. He had asthma or emphysema or something and his breathing was very labored. Mom did take him to the vet, but I can't remember what they said - that his lungs were scarred or something and there wasn't anything we could do. He did settle down over time (a few weeks) and we let him into the rest of the house. His breathing was ok if he didn't get upset or over-exert himself. He stayed about 10 months, fathered one litter of kittens, and then disappeared again for good. I kept one of the kittens, she looked just like him except she was black and he was gray.
