So many of you were so kind to me when my cats Mac and Owen were first diagnosed with diabetes years ago, and then more recently, as we struggled to save our beloved Owen, who we lost a month ago to complications from his diabetes.
Losing Owen has left a cat sized hole in our hearts, not only for us, but for Owen's brother Mac. They were littermates and had never been separated. They were very playful together and Mac has really been missing his buddy. DH and I have tried, but we are really not all that good at being cat-substitutes, I'm afraid! Recently, Mac has been trying to get my older female to play with him - and she is NOT amused, LOL.
So - after a lot of discussion, and some interesting twists and turns that I will explain another time, we have decided to adopt another cat, in the hopes of providing Mac with a companion.
We will be bringing Jack (Jackson) home from a local shelter in about an hour. He is a bit of a character... I think and hope that Owen would approve. He is an interesting breed - a Mau - and we know very little about him except that he is about a year old, very good with other cats, and in need of a loving home.
I am a little nervous about bringing a new cat into the family and of course I am anxious for him to settle in and be happy here. I hope that he and Mac will be able to form a happy relationship and enjoy each other's company. Please send a bit of good energy Jack's way as I know this will be a big transition for him and for all of us, really.
