Insulin storage and power outages

Merry christmas to all who celebrate it!! We're getting wicked storms in NY right now. Heavy rains and up to 50mph winds. Our lights have been flickering but havent lost full power yet. When we do we live in an isolated area and are usually last in the grid to go back on. Usually takes a few days. If we lose power is there a better part of the fridge. To keep his insulin? Right now its in the vegetable drawer in the bottom of the fridge. I do have some ice packs in the freezer as a precaution because we always lose power in the winter. I dont have any styrofoam coolers but i have a regular cooler. Is it better to keep it in there with the ice packs??

Thanks for the link! Im going to read it now. I'm doing an overnight curve tonight since im doing nothing for the holiday and can sleep all day. So if we do lose power i have an alarm set for every 2hrs so i'll be able to catch it quickly.

For future reference, I very much recommend getting a Frio insulin wallet for use during power outages, etc. It doesn't require any power at all. You simply soak it in water first and then pop the insulin vial/cartridge/pen inside. As the water soaked into the pouch evaporates it keeps the insulin cool. I used to live in a flat that was like a sauna in the summer (38°C+) and Saoirse's Frio wallet worked like a charm when the fridge packed up.

Thank you! I'll definitely look into that! I never worried about power outages before but now im like oh no!! Just woke up to check him again and seems like the wind and rain died down and we still have power fortunately. Doesnt look like he went under 300 at all tonight while doing our overnight curve. Im probably going to give his ears a little break today and wait to do a during the day curve on a day off next week. I think doing his ears every two hours for a full 24hrs would be a little much for him
